Grian's Perspective-

"See? Your power is cool."

I chuckled and Kade looked proud of me.

"How come you didn't tell me you could have fire powers?" I asked.

Kade shrugged.

"All of us gnomes have powers. We can all teleport, and some of us have another power too. I have fire."

"HOW DID YOU NEVER TELL ME THAT?!"

Kade laughed.

"I'm not supposed to tell you everything about us."

"What do you mean?"

"Gnome rules."

"You have rules?"

"Yep."

"How- "

"It's set when you emerge."

"Emerge?"

Kade nodded and I hummed.

"So why were you confident with Scar and flirting with him?"

"I WASN'T FLIRTING!!" I shouted, flushing red.

Kade laughed.

"You totally were."

"I- I was just teasing!!"

"Flirting."

"Teasing."

"Flirting."

I grumbled.

"But seriously, why were you so confident? You know I'm the one who can do the fire and I wouldn't ever set someone aflame. I mean, besides you." Kade joked and I rolled my eyes.

"I'm honored." I said sarcastically.

Kade laughed.

"But I don't know, just after that fight...it like...impowered me." I said, "I don't know how to describe it, but it like...finally felt like I was...good at something."

Kade looked up at my sympathetically, it was an expression that was very rare for him to put on.

"You are good at stuff." They said, "I know I don't always say that but...you are."

"But this...it's different. I like..." I sighed, "It's like I could actually do stuff without getting judged."

Kade tilted their head and I shrugged.

"I don't know, I'm just rambling at this point."

I laid down on my bed and looked up at the ceiling, watching as my fan went round and round.

It feels weird. Like a sense of finally belonging.

I looked over at Kade, who was making tiny flames near a scented candle my mother had bought from a girl scouts' group that stopped at our house the other day.

Maybe my power can do something...
