Scar's Perspective-

It seemed we were both finding out new things about Grian's power.

He just...spoke a different language.

So fluently.

And I'm not talking about Spanish or something like that, I mean he spoke gibberish.

Just...random sounded like they were words, but also didn't at the same time.

It was so strange.

And Grian seemed confused about it too.

"I- I didn't know..." He trailed off, looking stunned.

"You didn't know that you did that?!"

"I- I never- I don't..." He looked confused and I tilted my head, wanting to know more.

"Huh..." Was all he said.

"...what's your power?" He asked, wanting to change the subject.

"Oh, uh..."

I looked around and saw that Coach Hanlon had set out a bow and a couple arrows and a target for me.

I grabbed the bow and arrow.

I took a deep breath and Grian watched in amazement as I made the arrow stun things in a 3-foot radius to the target.

"Woah!" Grian said, amazed.

I smiled a bit.

"That's so cool!"

"Eh, not really."

"It's better than my power." Grian muttered.

"I...your power's...cool."

Grian shrugged and looked away and I sighed.

I watched as Adam flew upside down and then started to fly around in circles.

I then saw Grian looking at everyone with a sense of envy in his eyes.

"Hey." I sat down on the bleachers next to him, "You alright?"

"Yeah." He lied, not looking at me and instead watching as one girl shapeshifted into different animals.

"You know, talking to gnomes is cool."

"No, it's not." Grian said, looking down.

"Well, it's unique."

"Yeah, unique and useless."

Grian was silent before he started arguing in that foreign language again.

I stared at Grian, confused.

His power was...something.

I went home later that day and opened my textbook, wanting to find out more about Grian's power.

I flipped to the section about gnomes and realized...

There was basically no information about it.

People mostly think it's a useless power, and no one even knows where the gnomes come from.

Well, the people who were able to talk to gnomes weren't allowed to say where the gnomes came from.

I flipped through the textbook, wanting to know more.

But I reached the end.

I leaned back in my chair and thought about Grian.

I had never met anyone with his power before.

I had never met anyone who talked themselves down so much before.

And I had never met anyone,

who only wanted to be alone.

Forever.
