Chapter 18

Grian's Perspective-

Me and Scar looked around, waiting for Martyn.

He said he needed to meet us at the park today for some reason.

"So..." Scar said, trying to start a conversation.

The tension was high, and we both awkwardly smiled at each other.

...

"So, uh- are we...dating now?" I asked.

"Umm...I mean- I would- would want to. But only if that's okay with you."

"Of course! I mean- uh- that'd- that'd be nice." I smiled nervously and Scar chuckled.

"You're adorable." He said, smiling lovingly at me.

I blushed and smiled back.

"So," Scar leaned in closer, "Would it be okay to kiss you?"

I laughed nervously and looked away, nodding.

Scar smiled.

"Good."

He then softly pressed his lips against mine.

I blushed and kissed back.

"Ahem."

Me and Scar jumped apart and saw Martyn standing there.

"O-oh! Hey Martyn. How- "

"Save it." Martyn interrupted Scar.

He seemed angrier than normal.

"Er- what's wrong?" I asked.

"I'm leaving town."

"What?! Why?" Me and Scar asked at the same time.

"Because I need to defeat this villain once and for all."

"Does this have to do with two days ago when you talked about a canon with our school principal?" Scar asked.

"I..." Martyn sighed, "Okay, yes, it does."

"I knew it was something!!"

"So is it like this weapon or something?" I asked.

"Canon isn't an object. They're a person."

"What kind of mother names their child after a weapon?" Scar asked and I giggled.

But Martyn didn't even smile.

"Canon Everett isn't someone to laugh about. They are one of the most powerful villains and they've taken control of my partner."

Me and Scar froze.

"Your- your partner? Like superhero partner or like lover?" Scar asked.

Martyn looked up at us.

"Both."

"Oh..."

"Canon needs to be stopped before they become too powerful. And I'm going to leave town to find them and stop them."

"But- "

"You two need to stay here. You're still kids, you're still learning how to control your powers."

"But we can help." Scar said.

"No. It's too dangerous; you two don't know their power."

Scar sighed and I gently held his hand.

He smiled at me and I smiled back.

"You two stay here. The principal already knows I'm gonna be gone and you two will be training with a different superhero twice a month. I recommended Canary to help you guys since he was an old friend of mine, but I can't guarantee that he's who you'll be working with."

"Oh...okay. When will you be back?" I asked.

"Don't know. But know that when I get back...I'll be back with him."
