"Is everything ready there, Sandro?" tanong ko kay Sandro through video call habang nagbibiyahe pauwi from work for a triple celebration ng mga September babies. Particularly my beloved father-in-law in heaven, Papa Macoy, Bongbong, and Irene.
[Sandro: Yes, mom! The cake, pasta— lahat! We also set the T.V up for later. Can't wait to watch pop's interview with Toni!*switches to back camera while it shakes a bit and shows the food and cake displayed on the table*]
"Oh, that's wonderful!" excited kong sambit after ko nakita yung handaan.
[Sandro: *shifts to front camera that exposes his face* Yeah! Well—don't get too shocked, ha*giggles nervously*]
Napa-halata ako sa kabado niyang tawa. "What's with that nervous laugh you got?" I asked suspiciously.
[Sandro: Oh— uhh *licked his lower lip and brushed his hair with his hand* just gonna tell you that— SIMON AND VINNY ALMOST BURNED THE STOVE DOWN WHILE WERE COOKING KANINA!*made kwento in a natataranta tone*]
Napabilog tuloy yung mga mata ko sa gulat at napa-dubdub tuloy yung dibdib ko sa sinabi ni Sandro, "What?!" I shouted, hearing my two boys shouted from the background: "Sorry Mom!" and also made nervous giggling sounds.
Hay naku...
[Sandro: Yeah! It happened kanina while they're cooking pop's favorite roasted beef steak. Well— they did try to gaya-gaya like these chefs who— you know when they put some wineor oil and it made the pan go on fire—*smiles anxiously* well, it did but—]
I laughed lightly at Sandro's kwento, "Oh, I pictured it nga, Sandro," I began, "thankfully you didn't let the fire go stronger, or otherwise" saad ko, while I did the 'nevertheless' look on my face.
[Sandro: Well, buti na nga po.*smiled and sighed in relief*]
"Oh! Gonna end this call for now, Sands. Love you!" I said while I did a little wave.
[Sandro: See ya! Ingats po mom! Love you too! *doing a wave as he presses the end call*]
I laid my back on the car seat as I can see that palapit na kami sa Forbes Park. At wala pang 5 minutes ay nakarating na ako sa bahay namin rito with Manang Esther and other house angels welcoming me.
Bungad ng pagpasok sa loob ay naamoy ko agad yung sanghap ng handaan. I found myself following where that scent is coming from, which it lead me to the dining room.
"Hi mom!" my boys greeted in unison with their kiss on cheek and hugs.
"Where's your dad pala?" tanong ko as my eyes are roaming around the room.
Sasagutin sana ni Vinny yung tanong ko when we were alerted by Manang Esther that...
"Parating na si Sir!"
And all of us began scurrying around, trying to find a perfect spot for us to hide dahil isusurprise namin si Bongbong while Sandro turned off the lights.
Wala pang 2 minutes, I can hear my husband's voice says: "W-what the— hello? Where is everyone?"
And right when he was about to ask more questions, the lights in this room lit up na nakita niya yung handaan... and all of us, too. He moved slowly towards us nung nagkakantahan na kami ng Happy Birthday To You.
