We were back at the inn. The three of us sat in our room.
"Are we really going to do this?" Faith asked. I sighed.
"Well, I am. If you don't want to, that's okay. I'm already happy enough that you came." I said. She smiled sweetly. Her smile is so cute. I continued packing.
"I am coming to. You'll need a good guide." Torin said.
"And I'm not leaving my best friend." Faith said. Somehow, her words stung. Only her best friend? I shook away my thoughts and smiled.
"Thanks guys, really." I said. They both smiled and started packing too.
The sun was setting when we left Beggar's Hole. Torin took enough food from the inn for a lifetime. I was happy to have my friends by my side. Mo was sitting on Torin's shoulders and was brabbling random, made up words. Sometimes he glanced at me and Faith, his little bow in his tiny hand.
When it became completely dark, we settled down on a grassfield and made a fire. I was laying on my back while Mo was sitting on my belly. He was playing with one of my necklaces I handed to him. He seemed to be having a good time.
"What's that?" Torin asked.
"A necklace my mother gave me." I replied.
"She must be very proud to have a daughter like you."
"Yeah, she was." Torins eyes widened.
"I'm sorry I didn-."
"It's okay, really." I replied. Torin looked relieved. I sighed.
"Faith, why are you so quiet?" I asked. She looked up, straight into my eyes. Her eyes were sparkling, but I didn't know what emotion hid behind them. She smiled.
"Nothing, I was just thinking." She said. I smiled back.
"If you say so." I said.
"Oh and by the way, your eyes are really pretty." I added. Faith gave me a huge smile.
"Thank you!" She replied. She looked happy after my compliment. Suddenly, the bushes started rattling and we heard branches break.
"Why can't we ever get a fucking break!?" I exclaimed. We all stood up. Torin and I walked towards the bushes while Faith magically summoned plants that emerged from the ground. We were all in attack mode. Torin and I reached the bushes. I caught him glancing at me. He pushed away the bushes and something jumped out.
