We exited the hallway. I turned back and stared into the darkness.
“Where are you, Faith?” I whispered. Her scream suddenly echoed through the cave, but Torin didn’t seem to hear it. In my panic, I tripped and fell on my butt. Torin tried to help me up, but I was already back to my feet before I could take his hand.
“Torin, I think it’s best for us to stick together. We cannot lose each other. Let’s take my hallway first.” I said. Torin nodded and we entered the right hallway.
After a long while of walking, we reached another dead end. We walked back and entered the very left passage. I sighed.
“This can’t end with a dead end, otherwise we’re screwed.” I said. Torin agreed. This hallway just went up and became steeper and steeper every few steps.
“Jezus, how are we going to keep standing if this road keeps gettin’ steeper?” Torin exclaimed. I shrugged.
“Just keep walking, I guess.” I replied. My mind was somewhere else. I wasn’t paying attention. I was just focused on finding Faith. I later noticed that that was why I didn’t lose my mind. My feet started to get sore. I ignored the burning pain and kept walking. I kept walking until I saw some kind of stone door. At first, it was hard to see. It blended in with the wall, but this was a door. I was certain of it. And I was also certain the other two passages had no door. I sighed and managed to turn around.
“Can you see it? Can you see the door?” I asked, full of hope. I stepped aside for Torin to be able to examine the door. He eventually turned to me. He nodded.
“Aye. I can see it.” Torin said. A sigh of relief exited my body. I squeezed myself past Torin and the tight walls and turned to the door. After a while of examination, I saw there was no door handle. I looked at the door for a hot second and decided to just push. It worked. Some sort of sissing sound released a little amount of smoke as the door opened. It slid back to the left and Torin shined his torch in.
“Ready, Ruby?” He asked. I took a deep breath and looked up at him.
“Ready.” We entered the dark passage that had just been revealed.
The passage was filled with smoke and dust. I coughed.
“Jesus, this smoke is killing me.” I said. I heard Torin cough behind me.
“Agreed.” He replied. Suddenly, the fire from my torch dimmed until it was completely out. I turned to Torin. I wanted to ask for some of his fire, but his torch was dying to. I quickly tried to find either the matches, the lighter of the flashlight I brought, but I couldn’t find them. Torin's fire died and the hall turned pitch black. When I finally found the zipper, I zipped up my back and stood up. I looked around the hallway, trying to see something, but it was hopeless. I couldn’t see a thing. It was too dark for me to see anything at all.
“Fuck.” I mumbled.
