It took us nearly 15 minutes to get all packed. Faith insisted on bringing a lighter AND matches. And of course were the matches unfindable. Took a good 7-8 minutes to find them. But, when we were finally done, we were ready as hell. Ready to save my father. I memorised the most untraceable route to Beggar's Hole. It went through an uninhabited road and it wasn't any longer than the Google Maps route.
"And why does the route have to be untraceable?" Faith asked. I sighed.
"For the millionth time, we don't want anyone to know what we're doing and where we're going. We can't risk them calling the police." I explained as I tightened the straps of my backpack. At that moment, my neighbour, Mrs.Trinkle, came outside, an old, small fairy. She gave us her sweet granny smile.
"Oh, hello dears! Where are you going this fine morning?" she asked in her old voice. I panically looked at Faith.
"We uhh... we're going to visit my mother in the castle." Faith quickly came up with a lie.
"Oh that's lovely, dears. Tell her I said hello." With that, she took her newspaper and went back inside. I finally breathed again. Faith always was the better liar between us two.
"Well. Let's go before more of my neighbours come out." I said. I took a deep breath as I turned away from my home. And that's how our journey started.
I looked around. We were in a sunny forest. You could hear the birds chirping, the wind blowing and you could feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and the dirt under your feet. It was a very peaceful place. Faith and I were chatting, when we heard a sound. The sun was slowly setting behind us. I carefully took the spear my dad got me for my 13th birthday out of my bag. I unfolded it and walked towards the sound.
"What are you doing?" Faith hissed.
"Shh, shut up!" I whispered back. I got closer and closer towards the berry bush. I slowly moved the leaves and branches away and something flew up from it. A red, winged creature with horns circled around us, laughing maniacally. It suddenly flew down at an incredible speed, charging at me. I ducked and it flew past me. It let out an awful screech and soon more of those creatures came charging at us.
"What the hell are those things!?" I yelled as I poked around with my spear. I hit one of them every now and then.
"Those are Imps! They're kinda like fairy's, but more devilish!" Faith yelled back. She mostly dodged the Imps but used her powers every now and then. I moved my spear up right into the chest of one of those Imps. It let out a high screech before exploding into dust. We kept fighting them until they stopped. All the Imps looked in the same direction and flew off. I was catching my breath. I looked at Faith.
"What the fuck just happened?" I said, painting.
"If I know, I'll tell you." Faith replied. She took a deep breath.
"No time to waste. Let's go." She said as she pulled me away. I straightened my back as we continued our journey.
