A loud screech sounded as I locked eyes with the ghost above me. It was a woman, wearing old, ragged clothes. Well, I didn’t really lock eyes with the ghost, unlike I said before. Her eyes were gone. Blood was dripping from her eye sockets down on me. But the ghostly blood disappeared before it reached me. Her hair was all messy and she had a knife stuck in her stomach. I was horrified with what I saw. She looked like she had pain. So much pain. She screeched again and came down. I quickly ducked aside before the woman could reach me. I was laying on the floor, staring at the spot where the ghost woman disappeared. I quickly stood up and walked towards Torin.
“We better run before she comes back.” I said. Torin nodded and we ran away. The ghost did come back, but she didn’t follow us. She just screeched and flew up. Once we lost sight of the corridor, we slowed down and walked again. There were even less windows here than in the other corridor. The burgundy colour had returned. We took a few random turns. Even though I knew a lot about the castle, I had no idea how to reach the throne room. Things were really quiet for a while. Too quiet, if you’d ask me. I was really cautious. I was scared that if I weren’t, I’d end up dead. Torin and I sneaked through the corridors, trying to make no sound. We did hear laughter, footsteps, screams and other ghostly sounds. But, after the Caves of Doom, those sounds didn’t scare me anymore. I managed to block them out and continue to wander around the supposedly empty hallways. I was a little worried. My dad had been gone for a while and I was wandering around a maze of a castle, trying to find him. What if Graves had already hurt him? What if he already killed my dad and he just wanted to play a sick game in which he always won? These thoughts filled up my mind. The feeling of impending doom was growing and I felt my heart beat against my chest. A sudden wave of fear washed over me and I stopped in my tracks. Torin gave me a confused look.
“I-I don’t think I can do this.” I said. I didn’t know what was going on, but I was truly terrified. I looked at Torin with fear in my eyes.
“You can do this. Your father is alive, I know it.” He said.
“I’m just so scared. And I don’t know why.” I replied. Torin raised his eyebrow.
“And the fear just appeared?” He asked. I nodded. Torin didn’t say anything and took my hand. He fastened his pace, until I told him to slow down. I was confused.
“Why did you do that?” I asked, wanting an explanation. Torin sighed.
“I think there was something in the corridor that made you scared to feed off your fear.” He said. My eyes widened.
“There is something like that? I never heard of it.” I replied.
“Yeah, they’re not really famous. I don’t even know their name.” Torin said.
“You still scared, lass?” He added. I shook my head.
“Nope, the fear is all gone.” I said. I took a deep breath and turned to the other side. I just saw that we had arrived at two large wooden doors. I now fully turned towards the doors. My eyes widened. I scanned the doors, starting at the top and slowly making my way to the bottom. They were dark oak wood. The door handles still had a beautiful, golden colour.
“No way.” I mumbled. Torin was confused. He turned towards the doors as well. He looked at me and cleared his throat. I turned to him.
“So, why are you so excited about the doors?” He asked. I looked back at the doors.
“These are the doors to the throne room.” I said. I chuckled with excitement. I knew we still had to save my dad, but at least we had arrived. I had a big smile as I looked back at Torin.
“We made it!”
