There was a stillness in the ward as if the whole world was asleep, if you listened hard there was an occasional snore, the only movement was from the night shift who were experts at slipping  silently from room to room. Gelan approached Shen Wei's room and the guards split to allow her entry, checking his condition, making sure that everything was as it should be. He looked peaceful in his sleep and she breathed a slight sigh of relief before passing the dark figures to return to her office.

They stood as if frozen but alert to any sound in the ward, recognising every beep and snore, and where it came from, what room was involved and whether it was a threat or normal. They only took their places after the visitors were unlikely to return, or on similar occasions like today when there was a recent threat to life, especially for the one they were guarding tonight. Each were dressed in plain black suits, black shirts and a gold stud which replaced the top button in their shirts. They had no need of weapons because they were all experts in their field of training to remove threats quickly and quietly without disturbing the patients who very rarely saw this invisible guard who kept them safe.

Shen Wei knew about them because his link to the hospital was strong. His father had founded it originally, knowing that his son would be in need of care in a secure hospital when the time came and this was the only solution that he could think of to keep him safe. Shen Wei never knew his father because he died early in his childhood, but he found out later, how much he had prepared for his son's well being and safety. The staff were all hand picked for their experience and skills to work in this ward, and were trusted with the task of defending their special patient.

Now that Yunlan had entered his life, he too was guarded which had proved to be more difficult because he seemed to be very aware of his surroundings most of the time, except when he was visiting Wei. Outside of the hospital, it was as if he had eyes in the back of his head and the guards had found it challenging, wearing different disguises to remain close but undetectable. The older lady in Sea World had been watching and following Yunlan since he had entered and realised how tired he must have been on that day when she was able to get so close to him.

His office staff were all investigated for internal threats but they all passed with flying colours, it seemed like Yunlan was careful in his choice of work colleagues. The guards would never make themselves known, unless it was an emergency involving life or death situations, and it had always been that way, even when Wei had fainted in the street, Lin Jing had been under observation and they knew that Shen Wei was not under any threat.

Wei's alarm sounded causing Gelan to run hoping that it was a malfunction in the monitor. The suited men parted giving her space to enter the room and she found Wei struggling in his sleep. His breathing was faster than usual but he was fighting in his sleep, it looked like a dream, so she sat beside him, holding his hands steady as he fought the unknown person. Tears escaped as he yelled for them to stop and he sighed calming down. Gelan used a tissue to dry his face and check his vitals now that he was at peace again. Whatever he had been dreaming about was over and he slept quietly for the rest of the night. The guards retreated when the day shift arrived and returned to their base for rest.
