„Are you out of your fucking mind?" Ian angrily pushed open the door and made Alice stumble back.

„What?" She snagged back, her brows pulled together.

What?" He mimicked her. „You just disappear from Midsummer's, none of your friends know where the hell you are and you don't answer your fucking phone"

Alice took a hurried look through her room. She hadn't heard her phone ring once in the last few hours. But when she found her phone lying in the fluffy carpet under her bed with the display down, she understood why.

Strange, she wondered how it got there.

Ian looked suspiciously around the room. „and while we're at it, your boyfriend left the party all bloody, another reason why I called"

„My boyfriend?..." She mumbled in confusion, sure that she was actually single. But as soon as she remembered the scene in the locker room, she felt cold. „...Ian, JJ's not my boyfriend anymore"

„Why the fuck didn't you tell me, Alice?" He yelled at her.

Her brother's anger was one she knew too well. But what he was showing right now was something completely different.

This time it was serious.

„Cause I knew you'd react like this" She slightly raised her voice.

„I was worried" Ian hissed angrily, pointing a finger at her. „JJ looked like someone tried to kill him and then I couldn't find you anywhere" He slowly lost control over his voice as his yelling ringed in her ears. „I thought something happened to you"

The images of what had happened in the locker room flashed before her mind's eye. She could only guess how JJ was doing.

„Oh, and you know what's the best thing about this?" He began, crossing his arms in front of him, making his upper arm muscles show slightly through the fabric of his dark green suit. „Sarah actually couldn't find Rafe as well when I asked her where you were, so you don't happen to know where he his?"

Her facial expression lost all emotion.

Slowly, the fear that Ian knew more than he was letting on settled in her. He wasn't stupid, she knew that, and most of all he wasn't...nice when it came to guys approaching her. She wouldn't have been surprised if he'd asked the entire Island Club about her.

Had anyone seen her leave with Rafe?

„Rafe?...no, I don't know" She said, swallowing the nervousness inside her. „the last time I saw him was at the bar, he probably left early too"

„Yeah, I saw you two at the bar" He remembered and narrowed his eyes. „Look Alice, I don't care if you hang around with guys cause I can't stop you, but that Cameron guy is one I'll definitely stop you from"

Frowning, she scoffed and crossed her arms in front of her chest. „If I told you which girls I don't want to see you with, you wouldn't have a single one left, so who are you to tell me anything"

„Alice, I'm serious" He took a step closer, his voice quieter but still firm. „I don't want to see you with him, no matter how nice he was to you at the bar. He's a junkie, I won't let someone like that get close to you."

Alice swallowed hard, the thought of Rafe hearing everything was worse than what her brother made her realize. „he's not a junkie"

She knew that Rafe apparently had a drug problem. At least that was what Sarah had told her. But it had never sounded serious, more like something he only did at parties and she had never seen him actually do it.
