The room was silent - drowning in a cozy atmosphere - and drenched in peace. Alice was surrounded by a pleasant warmth that she hadn't felt in a very long time. A warmth so nice that she smiled contentedly as her senses gradually caught up with her.
With a heavy yawn, she blinked awake, deepening her head into her pillow until she began to feel herself surrounded by a certain protection.
Protection that came from Rafe, who hugged her from behind, the silhouette of her body pressed tightly against his, while his arm was firmly around her waist. He held her so securely and his warmth radiated across her body as he snored softly.
Still half asleep, she turned in his arms and buried her face in his chest and was enveloped in his scent. His scent was something so unique. Alice hardly understood it, but she still noticed again and again how even a single scent triggered a whole lot of memories in her.
Memories of what they once were and what they were now.
She pulled her head away from his chest and looked up at him as his tired eyes opened hesitantly. Completely off track, he yawned, his arms still wrapped around her as he looked down at her, realization slowly catching up with both of them.
It was a closeness so captivating and yet so wrong. Their eyes said things, which their hesitation would never allow, a wordless understanding between them while their lips were so dangerously close.
Greedy for each other's taste.
„Good morning" Rafe broke trough the silence with a hoarse voice.
„Morning" She replied, swallowing hard as she caught his eyes momentarily falling to her lips.
With a clearing of her throat, she pulled herself out of his embrace and turned around to reach for her phone. It was almost shortly after eleven in the morning, much too late and yet she had to admit that she slept really well.
Actually a bit too well and she knew exactly why.
„How are you feeling?" She asked, putting her phone down to look at Rafe, who exhaled heavily.
„Good" He answered shortly and rolled onto his back with a groan. „your bed is better"
„What?" She giggled in confusion.
„Your bed, it's just-I don't know-your mattresses are softer than mine"
With a sweet laugh, she sat up on her bed, the blanket still over her lap as she looked at him. He adjusted his pillow and leaned against it, folding his left arm behind his head. His biceps flexed shallowly, causing the fabric of his shirt to stretch around his upper arm.
The same arm that had held her less than a minute ago.
„Don't make yourself too comfortable" She said in a mock voice, making him roll his eyes and shake his head.
„Well, breakfast in bed would have been nice, but at least waking up was really good" He chuckled.
„Why is that?" She asked and watched as he held back his words by pulling his lips into a line. His eyes roamed over her face, admiring her in the dim morning light.
„It's just-„ He began, his hand approaching hers as both of them were lying on the crumpled bedsheets. „-it's different to wake up next to you"
