Alice watched Sarah get up and leave the living room to get something to drink from the kitchen.

It was already late in the evening. The sun had long since disappeared and its absence was already making the four of them tired.

They were back at the Cameron's since an hour and wanted to end the evening in front of the TV, but Alice couldn't help but think about this strange situation back in the restaurant.

„Rafe?" She mumbled, looking at the door again to make sure Sarah was out of reach.

He sat with his left arm stretched over the backrest, hips pushed forward and legs spread, dressed in gray sweatpants and a basic white shirt.

She would almost say she liked this better than him dressing up.

„Hm?" He hummed questioningly, his eyes still glued to his phone.

„Did you say something to that waiter?"

His eyes swung over to her and his brows furrowed. „what waiter?"

„The one who served us, the blond guy, our age" She reminded him, but he looked back at his phone with a huff.

„Why you asking?"

„Cause' he barely spoke when he brought us our food"

„I didn't know you wanted to talk to him"

„I never said that"

„That's what it sounds like"

„Rafe" She stopped him, clearly annoyed by his behavior. „what did you say to him?"

He threw his phone onto the sofa with a sigh and let his head fall against the pillows behind him, turning it to look at her and crossing his arms in front of his chest.

„I told him to stop flirting with you" He shrugged nonchalantly.

„He wasn't flirting" She shook her head and sat sideways, crossing her legs, „he was just being nice"

„He said you're pretty" He sharpened his voice.

„He did?"

„He did." Rafe confirmed with a nod, "and I didn't like that so I told him not to talk or look at you"

Alice knew exactly what she was getting into when she got involved in this whole relationship thing with him. Rafe was many things when it came to her. Loving, passionate, romantic in one of his bizarre ways, but with all that there were also sides that were less sweet. Jealousy, impulsivity, overprotective behavior.

And yet she tried to seek the beauty of this jealousy, but in vain.

„You can't go around threatening every guy who looks at me and tell him you're gonna hurt him if he does" She argued.

„I can." He emphasized emphatically, letting his smile grow into a grin.

She shook her head with a sigh and looked down at her hands in her lap, fidgeting with her Cartier bracelet. She thought it was sweet that he obviously...liked her enough that he wanted to protect her, but when she thought back to what that protective instinct had done to JJ, for example, she felt sick.

How far would he go if it came down to it?

„Hey, look at me" His hand appeared in her field of vision, cupping hers and making her look at him, „I'm not doing this for me, but for you. I just don't want anything to happen to you and with all these guys on the island you just don't know who you can trust, do you?"

She looked at him silently, letting his words sink in.

„You know how I feel about you, I won't let anyone take you from me"

She knew how he probably felt about her. He never really said it - he wasn't a man of words - and she definitely didn't want to pressure him into saying it.

„I know, but after the thing with JJ I'm just worried" She turned her eyes down to her hands again, but this time she was playing with his gold rings instead of her bracelet, „I don't want anything to happen to you"

„As I recall, JJ was the one with the black eye, not me" He chuckled.

„That's nothing you should be proud of" She rolled her eyes.

„At least I know how to protect my girl"

Her eyes swung up to him. He had so much charm in his words it was almost impossible to judge him, his gaze so captivating that she slowly began to smile in awe the longer his pretty blue eyes studied her face.

„I hate you" She shook her head, giggling.

„Oh, we both know you don't" He leaned in, whispering the words against her lips before planting a kiss on them that made her sink into him.

His kisses were addictive, filled with dopamine that sent feelings of happiness rushing through her body.

Their kiss deepened and she scooted closer to him, her hand moving to his chest. It was the feel of his lips - his touch - which made her forget where she even was as he grabbed her leg, pulled it over his hip, and straddled her on his lap.

Such an warm kiss, broken by the loud bang of a glass shattering on the floor.

The many shards of glass slid across the parquet floor, the reddish liquid hit the white living room carpet, staining it as their eyes darted to the doorframe.

And there stood Sarah.

Betrayal flooded her face. Alice saw the emotions running through Sarah as if they were words in a book. Betrayal, confusion, shock, every hard feeling there was at the sight of her best friend and her older brother kissing.

„The fuck happened here?" Kelce rushed in from the kitchen, slowing down when he saw the shards on the floor.

Sarah's brows twitched, the corners of her lips drooping. Water began to rise at the bottom of her eyelids as she answered Kelce, "Alice and Rafe kissed"
