Alice sat down at the free table, hung her bag on the chair, and adjusted her white pleaded skirt.

Rafe pulled out the chair next to her and sat down, his left arm stretched out over her backrest. Sarah and Kelce across and the chatter of all the other tables surrounded the four of them.

„We drove around, so you pay" Kelce grabbed one of the menus.

„You didn't drive, so you don't have the right to speak" Alice shot back, „you should pay us for taking you"

Kelce was about to protest, drowned out by the laughter and the young waiter approaching the table. „welcome, do you already know what you'd like to drink?"

Alice's gaze rose up to waiter, a boy around their age.

He looked neat and yet certainly not like a resident of Figure Eight. Blond hair, with a few darker strands straying between them, combed back and yet a small strand fell over his forehead. He had emerald eyes, intense green that shimmered when their eyes met.

The way a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips made her unable to suppress her own smile.

Rafe's gaze darted between them.

„I'll have a water" She gave him a brief smile.

Nodding and returning her smile, he wrote it down on his notepad before looking at the others. They ordered what they wanted to drink and as soon as he disappeared towards the kitchen, Alice felt Sarah kick her in the shin under the table.

„Ow" She hissed, rubbing her shin. „what was that for?"

„Uh, hello, that cute guy who just flirted with you across the table?" She wiggled her brows with a grin, making Alice roll her eyes, „he was just being nice"

„Girl, he may be nice, but he wasn't that nice to me"

„He's a waiter" Rafe chimed in with a shake of his head. „and a damn Pogue"

„Well, unlike you, we don't care about a person's money, Rafe"

Well, we saw how that ended for both of you"

Alice's eyes swung over to him with a scoff, „are you implying something, because if so, you should watch your fucking mouth"

His attention swung over to her as those words left her mouth. His eyes darted up and down between her eyes and lips, as if he was trying to literally see her words to check if she actually said them.

Oh, and she said them, no matter how hard he tried not to believe it.

With a huff, he averted his gaze and leaned forward  - pulling his arm away from her backrest - his leg beginning to bounce up and down as he crossed his hands in front of him and leaned on his forearms that were resting on the table.

„Always nice to go out for lunch with y'all" Kelce interjected with a hint of irony.

Alice shook her head with a sigh and couldn't help but get nervous at the constant bouncing of Rafe's leg. This damn attitude he displayed since they sat down got on her nerves so much that his restlessness eventually became too much for her and she pressed her hand on his leg under the table to stop his annoying movements.

She kept it there, regardless of the fact that the waiter came back with their drinks.

„So, here we have an iced tea for you and your lemonade" He placed the drinks in front of Kelce and Sarah before turning to Rafe and Alice. „a coke for you and a water for the lady over here"

He placed the glass in front of her last and winked, making her raise her brows in surprise.

Rafe watched as the waiter walked back to the counter after taking their orders.

He loathed him with every fiber of his being.

The way he stared at her, smiled at her, winked at her and obviously treated her differently than the rest of the group pissed him off.

He didn't understand how that could be. He was literally sitting right next to her, and this Pogue was still daring to flirt with her. With his eyes glued to her cleavage and to the skin of her uncovered legs through the skirt she wore.

But he wouldn't be Rafe if his impulsiveness didn't get the better of him.

„I'll be right back" He cleared his throat and pushed back his chair, „I just wanna ask the waiter if I can change my order"

He heard Kelce trying to stop him by calling his name because everyone at the table - except Sarah - was very aware that he wasn't planning on changing his order.

But being who he was, he put on a smile as he reached the counter and leaned against it.

„Can I help you?" The waiter looked up at him, their eyes meeting between confusion and jealousy.

„Yeah, yeah you actually can" Rafe nodded and wrinkled his nose. He kept his fake smile and let his eyes wander to the boy's name tag. „listen Daniel, you see that girl there, bro?"

Daniel followed Rafe's finger as he pointed at Alice, who was laughing at something Sarah said, her cheeks rosy and her smile wide.

„Yeah" He chuckled with a nod.

„Pretty, isn't she?" Rafe asked.

„She is." Daniel agreed after studying her for a moment before turning his gaze back to him.

„Yeah, and do you know how you could really help me?"

It was the way that Pogue grinned a little, as if he thought she had sent him to get his number, or that his wink had piqued her interest, that made the blood boil in Rafe's veins.

„You'd really help me if you stop flirting with my fucking girlfriend before I break all your bones, Daniel" He said in a ringing voice, his fake smile fading in a matter of seconds.

„Your girlfriend?"

„You heard me" He fumed, crossed his hands on the counter and looked at the boy through his brows. „so when you bring us our food and your bones mean something to you, you look everywhere but at her, look at the ceiling on the floor - I don't give a fuck - but if I see you look at her, wink at her again or call her lady again, I'll break you" He patted him friendly on the shoulder.

The blonde looked at Rafe wordlessly, his eyes glued to him as he moved away from the counter and smiled narcissistically. „I'm glad we talked, have a nice shift, bro"

He wouldn't call it obsession, just protection of what was his.

What was rightfully his.
