Eyes don't lie

"Hi," Renjun greeted Jeno when the other started appearing next to him at his locker. 

"Good morning," Jeno responded quietly making Renjun chuckle softly. 

As always Jeno wasn't a morning person. His hair sticked out on one side of his head, being a sign of Jeno's adorable clumsiness. 

"Slept well?," Renjun asked while shutting his locker after having taken out his History books. 

"Hm," Jeno replied but he didn't seem really attentive. 

Renjun followed his  gaze that was focused on a small figure standing at their locker with their stuff pushed against his torso. He took in the view of Jeno's adoring eyes lovely fixed on Donghyuck who seemed to wait for someone. 

A smile made its way onto his face and he adjusted his backpack, starting to make his way to Donghyuck. Renjun just slowly went after him, observing how Jeno was already next to Donghyuck who started to grin widely when noticing Jeno and greeted him, the two starting to laugh at something after only having exchanged a few words. 

Then Renjun felt himself holding his breath when he watched Donghyuck taking note of Jeno's deformed hair and smiling at it gently, reaching out to stroke it so it didn't stick out anymore. He also saw the way Jeno didn't dare to move and looked at Donghyuck mesmerized. 

"It's a shame Jeno isn't Donghyuck's soulmate, they would be so cute," Renjun found, a thought that literally crossed his mind every time he saw the two interact. 

It was obvious they cared for each other and they treated one another in such an endearing way all the time that you could question if those two weren't a couple if Donghyuck wasn't already Mark's boyfriend. 

And even though Mark was Renjun's friend too, and Renjun felt bad for thinking something like that when the two were in a lovely relationship, he was on Jeno's side. If you could say there were sides. 

Speaking of the devil, Mark appeared, back-hugging Donghyuck who stopped the conversation he was having with Jeno to squish Mark. Jeno and Mark did their check and then the three started talking, Jeno's posture seeming slightly tensed. 

Renjun shrieked when he suddenly felt hands on his shoulder turning him around. He was faced with Jaemin's stunning beauty right in front of him. 

"Hey"" the taller let out, grinning adorably while waiting for Renjun to return the greeting. 

"H-hi," Renjun answered airily, not knowing wether to push Jaemin's hand away or if that would seem weird. Luckily Jaemin removed it himself and placed himself next to Renjun, the two continuing to walk. 

"I'm so tired," Jaemin said and yawned as if to demonstrate his words. 

"Oh yeah, me too," Renjun agreed with him, feeling dumb for giving such a meaningless response. 

But Jaemin's presence was making him nervous. He was glad when they reached the others and Jaemin joined the talk Mark and Donghyuck were having. 

"You ok?," he quietly nudged Jeno. 

"Not really," Jeno stated and cracked a smile that didn't reach his eyes. 

Renjun opened his arms at that and the two hugged tightly, Jeno inhaling Renjun's calming peach perfume and relaxing a bit. They didn't do lots of skin-ship, but every time the other one needed it. The two weren't the clingier ones of their friend group like Donghyuck for example. 

"Hey, let me join the hug!," said boy exclaimed and went to squeeze Jeno from one side, soon Mark squeezing from his other side and Jaemin putting his arms around Renjun, whose blush did not get unnoticed by Jeno. 

Even though it was weird being hugged by his crush and his crush's boyfriend at the same time, Jeno tried to ignore that fact and concentrated on his friends' warmth. He couldn't remember the last time they had a group hug like this but it was quite comfortable. Silently he let himself get lost in the obvious feeling of his friends' affection for one another which poured into the hug and enjoyed it. 

For a moment he forgot about his crush, about the soulmate thing, about Renjun and Jaemin, Mark and Donghyuck, about everything. 

Jeno hadn't been at the peace of his mind for a long time, so he concentrated on the familiar scents that surrounded him and the sound of their breaths mixing. 

That's why although he did notice Donghyuck's heart was beating slightly too fast against his side, he didn't overthink the meaning of it and eventually forgot about it. 

"Ok, that's enough," Renjun announced after a while, feeling hot after having had Jaemin near him for such a long time. 

Everyone broke away from the hug, sorting their stuff before heading off to their courses. Mark didn't go with the other four as he was a grade above them and only came to the building for this grade to see his friends. He quickly hugged Donghyuck then he hurried in the opposite direction, briefly waving at the others and disappearing with a big, warm smile decorating his face. 

"Why do you always only hug? Have you ever kissed? No offense though or anything of course," Jaemin asked after Mark was out of their sight, stating an obvious question that had bothered Jeno for a long time and Renjun too actually. 

They just weren't as bold as Jaemin to address Donghyuck directly with it because they didn't want to seem insensitive. Jeno's head perked up at the question, the boy having to control himself not to eagerly stare at the other while waiting for an answer. 

"No, we haven't yet. I don't know why, so don't ask me the reason for it," Donghyuck told them, avoiding eye contact with everyone. 

"Ok," Jaemin said, now feeling like he had been too nosy, so he tried making up on it by not dwelling on the subject for too long. 

"I think we also have to go to our class now," Jaemin changed the topic and grabbed Jeno's and Renjun's arms as the three were sharing Physics classes together. 

"Yeah," Donghyuck briefly agreed, his visible discomfort from before surpassingly already having disintegrated as he seemed as normal as always. 

"See you then," he spoke and gave all of them a cute bump on their arms, almost dropping his books before turning around to head to his Geography course. 

"Cute," Jeno thought while he and the other two started moving to their classroom.
