Eyes don't lie

Soon their other friends Jaemin and Renjun had arrived and the five boys were now busy learning for an upcoming Chemistry exam. Only the scribbling of pens and turning of pages could be heard while they were concentrated on getting the boring, complicated formulas into their head.
Jeno, who had never had a problem with that subject, finished earlier and leaned back, enjoying the calm. He scanned the environment and watched the librarian who was placing new books into one of the shelves for fantasy novels.
The five friends where the only visitors of the library as it was located in a more rural district of their town. Even though their school also had a huge library, they preferred coming here because there were always barely other people besides them.
After a while of darting holes into the air, Jeno allowed himself to glance at Donghyuck who looked very concentrated reading something while playing with a pen in his right hand. Again Jeno was taken by surprise by the others new hair color. It looked stunning. The dark brown hair made him look more mature and was a total contrast to the bright red Donghyuck had had before.
Jeno observed Donghyuck silently mouthing some words with a stern expression. Then he suddenly looked up to directly stare at Jeno as if he had been aware of the older watching him. Jeno immediately froze, not knowing what to do. He nervously continued looking at the younger while holding his breath, not being able to avert his eyes.
It made him feel confused that Donghyuck didn't try to break their eye contact, he only eyed Jeno with a curious expression, scanning Jeno's face. Mark noticed the two after some time and watched from the side with a grin.
"Can I join your game of trying not to blink?," he asked after having watched a few seconds to which Donghyuck broke into laughter.
"No, you suck at it!," Donghyuck answered and patted his back to console him mockingly.
Oh, so it was only a game. Haha, again you got your hopes up, stupid.
"I hate you," Mark pouted which made Donghyuck hug him in adoration.
"No, you don't," he said while fondly squishing his boyfriend.
They both ended up laughing while hugging each other cutely and Jeno could only look at them with a forced smile. It hurt to see that Donghyuck was happy with someone else. As messed up as it sounded, it was even more painful for Jeno to witness the two being a super-wholesome couple that made you feel single² even if you were in a relationship.
"I'm done, gonna walk around a bit," Jeno announced and stood up, escaping their lovey-dovey behavior.
His friends didn't react as they were all occupied with something else. Sighing, Jeno stood up and went to inspect the novels the librarian had recently placed into the shelves. Most of them were just some basic fantasy books with standard plots. He pulled out a book every now and then to read the flap text but nothing really caught his eyes. So, after a while he ended up going back to his friends.
"I'm getting myself something to drink, do you want anything?," he asked when he stood next to them, leaning onto Renjun's chair.
"I already brought my coffee," Jaemin explained and pointed at the iced americano on the table which he had already drunken half of.
"For me a lemonade, please," Mark told him, not looking up as he was busy tipping something on his laptop.
"Alright. For you a sport drink, right, Hyuck?," Jeno asked as he remembered Donghyuck liking them thinking they were more healthy than normal soft-drinks because they were isotonic.
