Eyes don't lie

15

During the next days at school, Jeno and Donghyuck interacted awkwardly with each other. What had happened on the week-end was too odd and at the same time both of them were too scared to initiate a confrontation. But one person made it hard for the two boys to slyly avoid one another. And that was none other than Mark.

Honestly, Jeno wondered if the oldest of their group had a seventh sense for stuff like this or if Donghyuck just told him about their situation. To Jeno, the second option seemed less realistic though as he would doubt Mark would have reacted so friendly if he knew that his boyfriend had been close to kissing another guy.

Because that was what it had been. Jeno was confident to believe that. Which actually meant a lot as Jeno was usually NEVER confident when it came to those matters. Was that realization comforting or somewhat helpful? Not very. Finding this fact rather troubling, he couldn't really bare to face his crush, rather running away from the responsibility.

But to be fair, he was also blaming Donghyuck. He himself had done nothing wrong. He was not the guy who almost kissed another person even though he had a boyfriend. Though Jeno didn't judge Donghyuck. His own morals told him that people always had a reason for the way they were acting, and so he guessed Donghyuck had one too. The only thing was, that he could not decipher the reason. Jeno just didn't understand the other boy.

Now, as already described, Mark started to take the possibility of hiding from facing the reality away from them. Even though he did it in almost non-noticeable ways, he was definitely trying to get the boys back together.

Once, he seated himself onto the super small couch in one corner of the library, directly next to Donghyuck who as the space was limited, ended up squeezed against Jeno, sandwiched between the two older guys. Did the youngest out of the three feel a bit disappointed when Jeno stood up only a few minutes later, claiming he had to go to the toilet and looking somewhat uncomfortable? Yes. And he felt upset that they were both such cowards.

Then that one time when Mark just left the two during a break in which Jaemin and Renjun were studying together at the library. That way, both of them were forced to have a conversation because it would have been even more weird if they had finished their meal without exchanging a few words. Perhaps, their fear of judgement by other people in the canteen who could wonder why the inseparable friends were so distant was also a bit too present. Anyways, this didn't change the fact that they, after some days, were finally speaking what was considered normal for their standard. For the first few minutes, it was embarrassing but soon it became quite comfortable, their laughters adding to the noise combined of people chatting and the sound of cutlery.

Both of them realized they had been acting immature by kind of avoiding each other and it hadn't brought any solution to the "problem". Not that not talking about it or not mentioning it even after having made up, couldn't be considered as a huge improvement though.

But that's just how it was.

The only weird thing Jeno noticed was that Mark didn't stop encouraging Donghyuck to interact with Jeno like he had done prior to them going back to normal. For example he often arranged that Jeno and Donghyuck were either sitting next to or opposite each other. Logically, they would engage in a conversation like that. Plus, they got reminded of the other person's presence all the time.

Or when Mark asked Jeno if Donghyuck, who had styled his hair with a middle parting on Thursday, was pretty, to which Jeno obviously had to respond with a "yes", which came out his mouth with a slight stutter, as he got flustered by Donghyuck looking at him waiting for the answer. Of course he wasn't lying though, as they younger boy was really handsome-as always.

Still, it didn't go unnoticed by Jeno that Mark was creating opportunities for them which was very odd. He couldn't grasp his friend's reason.

Jeno wasn't the sole one out of their friend group that caught onto it. The so-attentive Renjun had been racking his brain about Mark's behavior these days. Just who initiates situations that make themself loose the opportunity to be close to their boyfriend? To give that opportunity to someone else?

Okay, okay, he knew that friends were also very close and nice and all that but still. Mark interfered way too often and created circumstances that made it almost seem like he was trying to set the two others up. Which was a totally irrational thought. He had seen how lovingly the boyfriends had been treating each other, there was no way that they didn't love each other, right? But Renjun couldn't get his suspicions out of his head. Like already said, it was not as if friends couldn't be all loving or give compliments but he just found it weird that Mark was behind all those actions in some way.

And he had for sure noticed the way Jeno reacted to it. It seemed to make the boy very confused, that's something Renjun could tell as his best friend sometimes furrowed his eyebrow when stuff happened. Renjun was also able to see how his friend was having inner conflicts by showing hesitance in his acts, probably feeling guilty about his feelings for Donghyuck which might get more visible or something like that if he blindly followed Mark's initiations.

The whole thing was tricky and all Renjun was hoping for was for it to resolve itself over time, if possible, quickly.

Okay, I know this is basically nothing and I am very sorry, you have all right to be disappointed TT. Anyways, it will get more exciting soon, so please bare with me and stay tuned, thank you! <3
