Eyes don't lie

22

About one year and 2 months ago

Laughter were echoing in the air and the sound of splashing water reached Doghyuck's ears as he sat in the high grass a bit away from the lake the five friends chose to hang out at during that summer afternoon. He smiled as he observed Mark and Jaemin playfully bickering in the water before he again focused on the poem he had written into a little booklet lying on his lap.

Feeling giddy reading through the words he had noted down so far, his smile only increased and he gripped his pen a little tighter, restraining his grin by biting his lip in order not to look like he had gone mad. Leaning back slightly and sinking into the high grass that was still of a bright, light green color as the hot season had only started very recently, he searched for other phrases to complete the poem.

Although you could call his environment inspiring- a lake surrounded by nature in the countryside, one hour drive from the city and them being the only people there, somehow he struggled to bring his emotions onto paper that late afternoon. His head was just too full, it hadn't fully processed all the things that had happened that day.

From Jaemin losing his balance and bumping into another person in the train- earning laughters from his friends and a dirty look from the woman that he tripped against; to the friends having to walk through a forest to reach this lake, getting bitten by mosquitos on their way; to the short kiss he had shared with Jeno underwater.

Yes, it had been a dare for Jeno to do so- because the friends were still uncreative and childish when it came to choosing those dares- and it had probably only lasted one second at max but Donghyuck's mind had been replaying that moment since then.

He just couldn't forget how Jeno's gentle fingers had reached out to carefully hold his neck- for stability or whatever- and the way his cold lips felt. Even though it had been super brief and Donghyuck had swallowed some water as an unfortunate result of that dare, he had been stunned since then, unable to concentrate on anything later on.

So that's why he was staying in the grass, staring at the barely full page as if sentences would form onto it themselves.

A breeze made the boy only wearing only shorts and a tank top shiver slightly as the temperatures had additionally started to fall and the sun was setting lower. Right after, as if timed a hand placed themselves on his left shoulder and Jeno sat down next to him with a soft smile. Quickly, Donghyuck shut his book close, drawing a surprised look on Jeno's face that he shielded fast and didn't question what the other had to hide, too polite.
