Eyes Don't Lie

When the friends finally entered Jeno's house and went up to Jeno's room, though not before having had greeted Jeno's mom and being offered self-made refreshing lemonade which they also took some with them to drink while doing the assignment.
"Your mother's just too nice," Donghyuck remarked admiringly as they sat down on the floor next at the small table Jeno used for studying.
"No, you're just easy to adore," the other commented and grabbed his laptop from where it was standing in one corner of the room.
Donghyuck didn't answer anything to that though Jeno could see he was happy by the comment as the corners of his mouth were slightly moved upwards when he turned around with the laptop in his hand. He took a place directly next to Donghyuck so that they could both work on it. Their arms were brushing against each other but he ignored the feeling because this would obviously not be noteworthy if it had happened with anyone else. If he wanted to get over his crush, he needed to disregard circumstances like this. But at the same time, he felt his heart thumping in his chest with a great force. This was so complicated.
If he had known that being in love would bring such a rollercoaster-ride of emotions, he questioned if he would have preferred not to have fallen in love. Every time that thought came to his mind, he also remembered the good feelings that he experienced by liking someone, the excitement, adoration and affection for a certain person that made him feel all lively and giddy in the best way sometimes. And sparing a glance at Donghyuck whose dark brown strands were covering parts of his eyes and made him appear mysterious and handsome, he realized that being in love was not a mistake when it meant being in love with Donghyuck. Even though it was painful in some way, he was glad that his heart chose to beat for such a wonderful person.
Before he could stop himself, he reached out to brush a strand of the other boy's hair behind his ear softly. Donghyuck, not expecting it, looked up from the article he was reading on the laptop, facing Jeno with a questioning expression. For a while they just looked at each other's eyes, Jeno getting lost in Donghyuck's beautiful brown irises.
Then realizing he still had his hand behind his crush's ear, he removed it, and it only now deemed on him what had been happening. Jeno felt embarrassed that he had gotten carried away. Quickly he set his gaze onto the article they had decided to read, not wanting the whole thing to continue as it would only spark confusion.
Trying to skip through the first few words, he suddenly felt Donghyuck touching his chin with his delicate fingers and turning Jeno's head to face him.
"Jeno, are you alright?," he asked with a raspy voice, his facial traits expressing worry and wonderment but nervousness additionally being visible in his gestures as his fingers were busy with playing around with a pen.
This made Jeno nervous too and when Donghyuck moved a bit closer to him to be able to read his expression better, he gulped, intimidated and not prepared for whatever Donghyuck was scheming. He then noticed that he had to reply to Donghyuck's question and let out a "Yes, I'm fine", that hopefully sounded more convincing than how he truly felt about his words.
"Good," Donghyuck said and then his eyes all of a sudden dropped on Jeno's lips for a second, making the older's heart jump I surprise.
They were pretty close to each other, Jeno could see every mole of his face and although he knew he was being delusional most of the time, he could not stop himself from thinking that this was very weird. It felt wrong. Not in the sense that he disliked being looked at like this by Donghyuck but the image of Mark was in his mind, reminding him that how the vibe was right now didn't seem right, allowed for them.
Simultaneously, the atmosphere was also intoxicating, thrilling. When Donghyuck averted his eyes from Jeno's lips, examining his reaction and staring at Jeno with his deep orbs, he swore he could have closed the gap between them and crashed his own lips onto Donghyuck's pink ones if he didn't have that last one tiny bit of self control that had restrained him from acting impulsively more than once.
At some point the tension became unbearable and when Jeno was contemplating if he should just risk it all, he heard a knock on the door, startling both boys and pulling them out of their trance.
"Yes?," Jeno answered and cleared his throat as his voice sounded a bit hoarse. Noting that he also had some lemonade left, he grabbed his glass and drank some of it to water his throat.
"Food's ready in about 5 minutes, would you mind setting the table?," his mother wearing a cooking apron spoke after she had curiously peeked into the room to watch what the friends were doing.
"Not at all," Donghyuck exclaimed, fixing his hair absently and standing up quickly. Jeno did the same and they left his room, Jeno hurrying in the direction of the stairs.
"Excuse me for a moment, I need to use the bathroom," Donghyuck told him, avoiding Jeno's eyes.
"Sure," Jeno managed to retort and made his way into the kitchen alone, feeling the adrenaline rush in his body.
There he started getting out cutlery and plates and draped them on the table carefully. His mind was as always working non-stop. The boy did hear his mom talking to him but he couldn't really comprehend her words so he just nodded or answered using single words.
Meanwhile Donghyuck turned the tap on in the bathroom while taking in his rosy, burning cheeks in the reflection of himself in the mirror.
This was too much for him. He felt confused after having had talked to Mark.
"I must have gone crazy," he mumbled to himself while he began to splash cold water onto his overheated face to cool it down.
Double update, hehe (kinda because there is only a one-day difference). Anyways, I am sorry if I am stretching things a bit but I feel like I usually rush things so I wanted to make the plot slower in this book, also to build up the tension. (; Thank you for reading! ^^
