Eyes don't lie

06

The whole next day, Jeno was still deep in thought. He told himself to literally not analyze the way his crush had acted towards him at the café but caught himself questioning it once in a while. Donghyuck's playful smirk kept repeating itself in his mind to the point he felt like he could become annoyed by it but he knew he could never get enough of that beautiful face.

Yes, it sometimes happened that Jeno interpreted too much into the other boy's actions but he was able to quickly declare them as hopeless imaginations. This time, however, it got stuck in his brain and wouldn't go away.

During lunch break, the overthinking didn't stop, so while they were heading to the cafeteria, Jeno grabbed Renjun's arm, saying, "I forgot something in the classroom, can you come get it with me?"

Renjun was already prepared to sigh as he didn't feel like going up the stairs as their classroom was on the first floor and the canteen on the ground floor but hearing his best friends tone that hinted it wasn't really about the stuff he forgot, he agreed on accompanying him.

"Okay. We'll be back, uhm, could you buy us something to eat, here's my wallet," he told the others and gave it to Jaemin, Jeno also handing him a banknote.

"Sure thing," Jaemin meant in a smooth voice and him and the other two left, Donghyuck shortly shooting a glance at Jeno before turning around too.

"So, what is it?," Renjun asked as soon as the others were out of sight, making Jeno chuckle as he didn't wait and just went for it. Even though he didn't seem like it, Renjun was quite curious too, though trying not to sound too nosy.

"You know, yesterday at the coffeeshop, Donghyuck and I were sitting pretty close next to each other because there wasn't enough space," Jeno starts, shortly looking at Renjun who nodded for confirmation.

"It was okay but then at some point, he suddenly put his hand on my thigh!," he exclaimed and waited for Renjun's reaction.

"Okay, and?," the other boy cautiously asked, not really knowing what he should say.

"Don't you find it weird? Like, we never share skin-ship like that. And putting your hand on another person's thigh is pretty bold, isn't it?," Jeno said, eagerly wanting Renjun to at least agree a bit so that he didn't come across as stupid and like the delusional boy he became sometimes.

But his best friend stayed silent for some time, not knowing what he could tell this boy who was so in love. Yes, it seemed slightly suspicious to Renjun, he couldn't deny that. That was a kind of touch that showed a lot of closeness and intimacy in his opinion.

Why would Donghyuck touch Jeno there if he had a boyfriend? The thing that bothered him the most was that the chemistry between the two was undeniable but one of them had a boyfriend that he obviously treasured. And Renjun found himself in a dilemma because Jeno was his best friend and he would always support him and root for him but at the same time he couldn't as Mark was also his friend plus his best friend's crush's boyfriend. So, if he made clear that he wanted Jeno to get together with Donghyuck, it automatically meant that he was against Mark being with him and Renjun didn't want to think like that. He wanted all of the persons that were the most important to him to be happy equally.

It was frustrating and he had to chose his words carefully in certain situations like this one.

"Did it seem intentional? Or anything else you noticed?," he carefully questioned, not making a judgement yet.

"Mhm, when I stopped him from playing with the hole on my knee- I wore those ripped pants, you know- he just made eye-contact with me and smirked. I mean, I don't know if the look he gave me indicated that but it seemed like he was totally aware of what he was doing. As if he was teasing me on purpose," his friend explained and Renjun found himself in a helpless situation.

From what Jeno told, Donghyuck's actions did indeed seem strange but Renjun was unsure what to tell Jeno as he didn't want to raise his hopes or anything like that.

"I don't know, maybe you just imagined that?," he lamely concluded, feeling bad for not being able to lessen Jeno's confusion.

"I'm pretty sure I didn't but..I don't know either," Jeno retorted and sighed, his friend feeling pitiful as always watching that.

"You should just get over him..," Renjun said and even though he hated himself for giving this stupid advice, he hated seeing his friend hurting from an unrequited love even more.

"As if it was that easy. I would have stopped loving him if I could. But how could my love for this caring, cute and funny boy die down?," Jeno let out bitterly and frustratedly flicked against the locker they were passing.

"And the worst thing is that he seems to be pretty attached to me these days when he isn't with Mark. We get along so well it pains me. He's so close but still unreachable," he added sadly and ended his talk, walking next to Renjun gloomily.

The other didn't know how to react to that, so he just followed his friend to the canteen.
