Eyes don't lie

"Did you get what you needed?," Mark asked when Renjun and Jeno joined their group in the cafeteria.
"Uh yeah," Jeno answered a bit awkwardly though he had taken the precautions and brought his psychology exercise book with him to make it seem like that was why he had stayed back with Renjun.
"Great then," Mark commented and continued eating his salad while Jaemin told the newcomers to sit down as they had already bought their food as promised before.
"Thanks," Renjun said blushing slightly after Jaemin had moved his chair so he could easier take a seat.
"And you tell me I'm the obvious one about my crush," Jeno who had witnessed it, thought and smiled at his friend's behavior.
He was happy for Renjun and in his opinion if his best friend and Jaemin weren't soulmates, then clouds wouldn't be white. Even though that was what he believed, he couldn't help but also be a bit scared of the moment that truth became reality. Yes, he would wish them all his best and they truly deserved that but at the same time he didn't want to think about himself third wheeling the day he'll officially be the only single one in their friend group with all of his friends dating.
Again, his mind started working hard, overthinking everything and he would have surely spaced out, leaving his salad in front of him untouched if it weren't for Donghyuck who softly nudged him from his side.
"You there?," he questioned looking at Jeno attentively while chewing on his food.
"Ah yeah, sorry just thinking about psychology," Jeno told him, already feeling guilty because of this white, harmless lie.
"Oh god, did we have to learn something?," Donghyuck wanted to know eagerly and pointed on his exercise book, desperately hoping it wasn't the case as their teacher didn't show any mercy during her oral interrogations and her tests in general.
"No, don't worry," Jeno, who had noticed Donghyuck stressing slightly, chuckled, evoking a relieved sigh from him.
"I still don't get why you'd chose the course with that teacher," Jaemin who had witnessed their conversation half-interested, let them know and sipped his chocolate milk.
"Yeahhh but psychology," Donghyuck complained, having made clear more than once that he wasn't her fan either.
"Mhm, it's the only way you can have that subject as she's the only one that teaches it," Jeno added, not really caring about the teacher. She was indeed very strict but her knowledge was awesome and she definitely knew what she was talking about, so he found her lessons very interesting. Plus, he shared them with Donghyuck, it was the only course with only the two of them as Renjun had chosen History of Arts and Jaemin loved his extra biology classes.
Jaemin shrugged in response, though he still didn't fully understand them and started a talk with Mark who was also a biology freak. The other three just ate their plates silently, Jeno spearing a glance at Donghyuck every now and then but making sure the other didn't notice, his eyes lasting on his crush's figure only for brief seconds every time. Renjun just calmly listened to the conversation on their table, admiring Jaemin's expertise and passion when it came to biology, finding that trait of him secretly very attractive. Donghyuck finished his meal, making sure no crumbs were left on his plate, a cute habit of him Jeno had noticed. After a while, they all were ready to go, so they stood up and put their used cutlery and plates away, then heading to their respective class rooms, of course not before having got the stuff they needed from their lockers.
