Eyes don't lie

14

While Jeno and Donghyuck were doing their assignment (for most part) at Jeno's home, at the same time Jaemin and Renjun were walking to the subway together, as they both needed to take the same line, though Renjun could get off earlier and Jaemin had to change subways later on.

"The sleepover was fun, right?," Jaemin meant happily and eyed Renjun who was shyly trudging next to him, nervous but excited to be going home with his crush.

"Hmm, it was nice," Renjun agreed and blushed when he remembered how Jaemin and him had fallen asleep together last night..holding hands. He didn't fully recall the way it had happened but at some point, the two boys whose mattresses had been lying next to each other, had been holding hands under the blanket. Jaemin had somehow initiated it and then it ended with both of them holding hands through the night. Last-night's memory was still fresh in Renjun's head and only the thought of it made him feel all tingly inside.

As if Jaemin had read his mind, he looked at their hands and slowly approached Renjun's with his own, gently tracing his fingers against Renjun's palm. The other boy was slightly startled by the sudden touch that he hadn't foreseen and hesitantly looked at Jaemin, his cheeks tinted in a adorable, innocent pink. His eyes were questioning, though also demanding as he looked at Jaemin, unsure yet wanting.

"May I?," Jaemin asked with a hopeful expression, yet his voice charming and cocky, making it impossible for Renjun to decline the request. It wasn't like he didn't want though.

So all the whipped boy could do was to nod dumbfounded, then spreading his fingers so Jaemin could interlace their hands together. The younger boys long, could fingers wrapped around Renjun's petite hands so perfectly that it seemed as if they were destined to fit. Renjun could hear his heart thump as they were continuing to make their way to the subway, enjoying the feeling of their hands intertwined and their arms occasionally brushing against each other. Even though it was only their second time holding hands, it didn't feel that unfamiliar to Renjun. Just new but in an exciting and comfortable way. He felt some kind of stress that his hands were sweating but he knew Jaemin would never say anything about it because he was too much of a gentleman. And also caring.

For example, he lent Renjun his hand-ventilator to fight the heat the whole walk to the station even though Renjun could see he was sweating a lot too as sweat beads were forming onto his forehead. That was a trait Renjun admired and loved. Every time Jaemin opened a door for the other one or gently pulled him to the side when people where approaching them, so Renjun wouldn't bump into someone, he could feel butterflies making crazy turns in his stomach and a affectionate smile in which his attraction towards his crush was also visible showed itself. This calm, sweet side of Jaemin never failed to make him fall even harder.

Like now, when Jaemin came back from buying himself something to drink at a near vending machine at the station but didn't forget to bring one for the the older too-an iced-coffee.

"Here," Jaemin said and handed him the cold can that was already opened so that Renjun still holding the mini-fan didn't have to struggle. He smiled at the action, also wondering if he knew anyone else that was as thoughtful.

When they entered the subway and Jaemin offered him the last seat, he declined though, wanting the other boy who had been so nice all the time to sit now. Standing in front of Jaemin and looking down onto him was a new kind of view and felt different. But he certainly didn't look less ethereal from that viewpoint. Feeling that he was being looked at, Jaemin lifted his head, catching Renjun's eyes with his own. A bit startled at first, Renjun held his breath, staring back into the other's handsome face.

For a short while, he didn't even feel the vibration of the vehicle anymore, the only thing he perceived was the younger guy in front of him. In such a distracted state, he didn't even notice his station being announced through the speaker and only made an effort to get off when Jaemin was tugging at the fabric of his jeans, and moving his head in a way to show that they had arrived at his station. Blinking rapidly, Renjun fussily gave Jaemin back the mini-air-fan before muttering a brief "goodbye" and leaving the train in a daze.

After getting off, he halted his steps for a moment, sorting his thoughts in the middle of the track platform. Not that there were many people whose ways he was blocking or anything but an old man was curiously, though with a grumpy expression, watching what the boy was doing standing there dead still. Noticing that, Renjun quickly went away embarrassedly, only allowing himself to think while using the moving stairs.

There was actually nothing much to think or establish. What he knew was that he couldn't help his love deepening for Jaemin. And that made him scared. He feared the future which would determine his situation with the other boy. Although he feared the future, he also disliked that he was in the dark. This state of non-existent transparency was making him go insane.

So even though he was very scared that he wouldn't be Jaemin's soulmate, at the same time he just wished he would know.

Constantly being restricted in the way he was acting towards Jaemin and suppressing his feelings awfully often because he didn't want to make things more painful for him in the end was freaking hard.

Also, he didn't want to seem selfish when hoping for what he wished coming true, knowing his best friend didn't have it easy.

Nevertheless, he was longing for a romantic relationship with his crush. Considering the recent development in their manner of interacting with each other, that possibly didn't seem that far-stretched but the fact that a stupid soulmate bond could crash this illusion in the batter of an eye was devastating.
