The sun was setting, the sky had warm hues all over and everything was colored gold. However Wooyoung felt the opposite looking out the window, avoiding the phone vibrating. Instead he casted a look towards Kyungmin, watching him sleep peacefully for the first time in probably weeks. He got tired from all the playing they had done and even skipped dinner just to sleep while Wooyoung was still beside him. He had saved him a tray of food beside his bed and if only he knew that he didn't have it in him to leave, the worry too strong.
It was only up to time until San tells the police about him. He was a criminal now after all, for tricking the police. His degree was pointless by now, and when Choi finds out about him telling San, which would be probably soon, he had no other choice than to sneak Kyungmin out of the orphanage to safety.
He didn't know where safety was, he didn't know a place Choi wouldn't find him. But at least until he got to him and he could take matters into his own hands, he would have to sneak Kyungmin out this night and hide him at Mingi's place.
He wasn't even fearing anything anymore, already having accepted the fact that he couldn't get out of this misery without ending Choi himself. He felt blank, empty and his only hopeful thought he had in him was to bring Kyungmin in safety.
Hours passed too fast by like everything was sped up just so that he could finally end in the devil's hands. It was already dark outside, a cloudy dark night without the guidance of any stars, as if the sky was just as lost as he was.
He looked at the still full trey of food and how Kyungmin would not be able to eat it anymore. He stood up from his seat on the chair, trying to be as quiet as possible as to not wake up the other children sleeping in the room.
The visiting hours ended long ago, but he hid just so he could take Kyungmin with him. He walked up to him, softly shaking him awake. As sleepy eyes blinked open, struggling to stay awake, he felt bad. Everything suddenly crashed down on him, every bad thing he made his brother go through and with a heavy heart he tells him that it's time to go.
He is faced with excitement on his innocent face.
"Where are we going?" He whispered quietly, acting like they were on a mission.
"On an adventure. But you have to keep quiet and follow everything I say, alright?" He whispered back and stoked his hair gently. He nodded enthusiastically and in anticipation.
He got out of his bed and Wooyoung took the small backpack with some of his clothes he had packed earlier and took his hand into his own. They got down the stairs and he guided them towards the office he had sat in earlier that day. It was dark and the moon barely did anything to guide them through the darkness.
The door was locked like he had predicted, so he took a hairpin out of his hair that helped to keep his long hair out of his eyes and tried to open the lock with it. In that moment he was glad to have learned how to open a locked door and his memories drifted back to that one time he was with San in the basement trying to find Soomin.
Suddenly he heard the click of the lock and felt Kyungmin looking up at him in excitement. The door opened and he was surprised how his small brother was so brave tonight. Maybe be found courage in Wooyoung being with him, he thought with a warm feeling in his chest and took a step inside the office. He took his phone out and the flashlight allowed him to see enough to search for the back door keys.
Kyungmin searched with him and as quietly as they tried to be, it still caused some noises and Wooyoung got more nervous by every passing second. Suddenly Kyungmin ran towards him, holding a ring with different keys up to his face proudly. He felt like screaming from the delight as he took the keys and ruffled his hair fondly.
