"Mr De Luca? It's Doctor Evans."
That name, I've heard it before. It can't be him though. Maybe it's just a common name for doctors. There must be many people who go by the name Evans.
The soft glint in my father's eyes vanished," You may enter."
A shiver ran through my spine at his tone. Full of authority yet cold and empty. However, he always softened his tone when it came to his older children, the ones' he actually loved. I never had the luxury of receiving any of the love my father portrayed for my siblings. They were lucky. Even though we lost our mom, they always had father. They had the love of one mighty man. A man who'd do anything to keep them happy, to keep them safe.
Of course, father naturally hated me, they all blamed me for the accident and at times, I believe I might've lost all sense of my sanity had I been left all alone. There was one person who always had my back. He was the only one to comfort me at my most difficult times.
My twin meant everything to me and if I ever lost him, I know I'd eventually lose myself. A world where he doesn't exist cannot be a world fit for me. I'm nothing without him.
I'm just-
You're weak is what you are, a voice said in a bored tone.
Great, now it's back.
We never left, they retaliated.
Correction, they're back.
The door abruptly opened, causing the voices to quieten as a tall figure emerged. I've lost count of how many times I've been frozen into shock since I've been here.
There stood Doctor Evans, my doctor Evans.
His eyes widened and I gave him a worried look, pleading with my eyes, hoping he'd understand. Doctor Evans gave me a subtle nod and came closer towards me. Father and him exchanged a few words of greetings before he turned to me.
"What seems to be the problem Leo?" He cleared his throat," I'm sorry Leonardo?"
My father raised an eyebrow but remained quiet, his cold gaze focused on me. Sighing, I raised my pant leg.
Doctor Evan's face paled at the mere sight of my leg, he glanced up at me with a questioning gaze, clearly asking what had happened. Glancing at my father, he was a few feet away, occupied with his phone.
Leaning in, I whispered," Derek." My voice trembled at the mere mention of his name, terrible, terrible memories beginning to resurface.
Evan's face softened and he opened his mouth to speak before getting interrupted.
"What's wrong with his leg?" Father inquired.
"He's clearly been hit with something and that's caused the ghastly bruise that's formed. It makes sense that it'd hurt for him to walk or put any pressure on but it doesn't seem that he was hit too hard. Rather, it seems as though he fell somewhere judging by the slight twist in his ankle." Evans explained, his teeth clenched tightly.
His theory sounded nowhere near scientific but it made dawned on me what he was doing, he was testing the waters.
Turning to me, he asked with an edge to his voice," Did you fall down somewhere?" He had to put the quotation marks around fall didn't he?
