XXXXXII. THE BREAKUP

I don't know what happened. We just. I don't know. It all just got messy all at once and I didn't know what to do.

February 10, 2022

"Oh fuck Jack it's 3pm right now" I curse.

We went to Boston on his day off thinking it's fine to drive and stay overnight. But we were supposed to leave hours ago so he can make it back in time for his game.

I'm currently shuffling to get our stuff together while Jack is busy on his phone, I assume to contact people.

"We're going to be fine. Can you call get us ready to leave and I'm going to make some phone calls right now if that's okay?" he questions and I see the panicked expression all over him.

"Yeah of course" I nod.

I can hear someone yelling at him in the back as I finish packing our stuff away.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"I can't take any flights because apparently they're all booked. I'm going to miss the game and they're going to have me scratched" he explains.

"Are you okay?" I speak up as he pulls me into his arms.

"Yeah. It's just-you know what it is" he replies.

After checking out we immediately drive back to Newark. Even if I'm the one driving I can feel his anxiety.

"I'm sorry" I apologize.

"What for babe?" he replies.

"I was the one who suggested Boston and now you're scratched and everyone counted on you and I just-"

"It's not your fault okay? Don't blame yourself please" he assures me and I nod while my eyes are on the road.

Pulling up to the rock there was a bunch of people waiting for Jack.

"I'll try to come over after the game okay?" he assured me with a kiss.

"Okay. Be safe please" I reply back.

The moment I get home Mom starts getting all mad at me for what we did. I get it and I've learned to isolate her yelling before she gets even more mad.

Eventually I decide to leave at 11 knowing that she's already asleep and wouldn't know if I'm gone.

The Devils lost to the Penguins.

Jack and Ty are back at their apartment now and I don't really know what to expect other than Jack knowing I'm coming over.

I hear the two arguing as I'm standing behind by the entrance mirror.

"Instead of her motivating you all she's been doing is becoming a distraction and you know that. I like her for you don't get me wrong but come on- I've noticed. The team has noticed" Ty talks.

"Ty shut up you don't know what you're talking about" I hear Jack reply.

"So you're going to ignore everything huh? You've been slacking. And it shows during games. Don't wait until everyone starts calling you out on the media. You're head isn't in the game and it's because of her. I'm telling you this as a friend and as a team mate" Ty grits.

Jack notices me standing and gives me a sympathetic look.

"I'm-I'm gonna go, I'll just go to Tita Nika's she's not there anyways so" I mention.
