"What the fuck-" I react as I fall onto the cold concrete, the 88rising playing from my AirPods stop.
"Shit sorry sorry my bad" the voice apologizes.
I look up and see the same blue eyes I've been mesmerized with the entire night. He's looking right at me, right into my dark brown eyes that I hate.
He holds his hand out for me to take but I'm uncertain because I don't know him nor do I trust him. But I do it anyway. He helps me up and I grab my phone that got drifted onto the sidewalk.
"You-" I start before seeing how guilty he looks with concern.
"Are you okay?" he questions as I get pulled into his blue eyes.
I don't know if I am but my phone isn't. The impact of that push was enough to crack the screen through the tempered glass cover.
"I don't know but my phone is not okay" I answer as I tap onto the cracked screen that shows 10:47pm.
"I'm really sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going. People don't exit from this area unless it's us or staff" he explains.
"It's fine" I mutter looking away.
It's not fine, mom and dad are going to give me a lecture on this when I get home.
His eyes drift from mine to my phone and to the cars passing by on our right.
"You're that one hockey player that's been looking at me- starting at me during the game" I mention because I'm the most straight forward person, most of the time.
"Oh- uhm it wasn't anything intentional. We just happened to make eye contact" he replies.
"Yeah for a while, few times" I mutter.
I need to shut up
"I'm really sorry about that too- if that made you really uncomfortable. I felt too drawn into your eyes...for some reason" he responds as I avoid eye contact.
"Oh I guess I can say the same" I answer as our eyes meet and if I could tell him his eyes are pretty I would.
But for now, I'd rather not.
"Jack!" we hear a voice call and look over to them.
The person who called him, along with two others start smiling at us "We gotta go man!" the blond guy says.
Just as he looks at me Eden pulls up to my side and rolls down the window.
"Uhm-"
"-I'll find a way to replace your phone" he says.
"You really don't have to" I mention as I look at Eden gesturing me to get in.
"Rory!" She calls.
"I have to go-" I mention as he nods.
"Jack" he smiles just a little bit and the light in his eyes pierce through the cold.
"Rory" I answer before getting into the car and buckling up as Eden drives off.
As we head to the stoplight I watch as he finally gets into the van.
"Were you just talking to Jack Hughes?" Eden mentions.
"Oh is that his last name?" I question trying to recall everything from the game we just watched.
"Rory were you not paying attention?"
"His jersey number is 86 right?" I ask.
"Yeah, it is" she answers.
"I wasn't really curious that's why" I mention.
