it was two days before november's birthday, and it seemed like everyone but her was excited.

to november, the most important birthdays were 1, 10, 13, 16, 18, 21, 69, and 100 if you were lucky.

when she turned 16, she just wasn't interested in celebrating her birthday anymore. she didn't get a car like she wanted, but she did get to go roller skating with her cousin, nicole.

it was fun for the most part, until she fell on top of nicole, causing her to have to go to the emergency room.

fun.

in two days, november was turning 19, which was kind of a big deal, but not really. she had enough money to buy her own apartment, which she had saved up over the years.

she was afraid of living on her own, but she knew living in the dorms was getting too expensive for her parents, and she was getting too old to be living in her parent's house.

the only thing november was excited about was seeing niall again. they hadnt seen each other in a month and she was starting to miss him more than she should.

sure they texted and skyped everyday, but it wasn't the same as having niall hug and kiss her like he did.

"november, come tell me which cake flavor tastes better!" mrs. rivera called from the kitchen.

november walked into the kitchen, gasping at all the cake samples that were on the table.

"mama, i don't understand why you're making such a big deal out of this. i'm only turning 19. it's not a big deal!"

"it is a big deal, november. next thing you know, you're gonna be 20, then 21, then you're going to move out and you won't be my little looley bug anymore," mrs. rivera wiped the tears that were forming in his eyes.

guilt washed over november, "i kind of wanted to talk to you about that.."

mrs. rivera dropped the plate that she was washing into the sink.

(convo is in italics because it's all in spanish)

"you want to move out?"

"i've just been thinking about it. it's not for sure yet," november argued.

"no, we're talking about this with your father. will!"

november groaned, sitting down at the table and began eating the cake samples.

"what is it?" mr. rivera walked in, carrying his tool box.

"your daughter wants to move out."

"you what?"

"i never said i did! i was just.. thinking about it," november shrugged, stuffing a piece of carrot cake into her mouth.

"do you have the money to move out?" mr. rivera raised a brow.

"will!"

"if she's planning to move out, i'm not helping her pay for anything but the occasional rent here and there. she's turning 19 in two days. she's old enough to make her own decisions."

november smiled, jumping out of her chair and hugging her father.

"before we start talking about you moving out, let's plan your birthday party, okay?"

november nodded, planting a kiss on his cheek before returning to the kitchen table to test out the other cake samples.

"what do you mean the flight's delayed?"

niall stood at the airport in ireland, trying to get back to november, but it wasn't looking that great.

"there's a storm coming this way and we can't fly through it. you'll have to come back in a few days to exchange your ticket," the lady at the desk stated, writing something down on her notepad.

niall groaned, walking away and dialing november's number.

"hello?"

"november, baby, i'm so sorry," he sighed, sitting in the airport lobby.

"what do you mean? what happened?"

"my flight got delayed. there's a storm or some shit. i don't know when i'll be able to make it. i'm sorry, angel."

niall waited for her response, but there wasn't one. "november?"

he heard her sigh, "it's okay. i understand. i just miss you a lot, ni."

"i miss you too, princess," niall held his head in his hands until he heard a soft giggle coming from the other end of the phone.

"what's so funny?"

"you called me princess. that's a new one," november replied.

"because you're my princess and i'm sorry that i'm probably not going to be there for your birthday. i promise i'll make it up to you."

"how?" she asked. it came out seductively, which made niall's eyes go wide. he knew it wasn't her intention, but it made him turn crimson.

"i could take you out to dinner? or something. i dont know. anything you want. i feel really bad about this, nov."

"it's not your fault," she replied. niall could picture the small smile on her face.

"i have to go, babe. i'll facetime you when i get home. love you."

"love you too."
