I wish I'd never met you now
If only for your sake
Because you loved me just enough
To leave you with heartache
I thought that we could make it work
Although I think I knew
That there was not a future where
I ended up with you
Maybe that is hindsight though
For how could I have known
How dating you would somehow lead
To you being alone?
I selfishly long for a text
Or some sign you're alright
I dream of meeting you by chance
When I can sleep at night
And so I say we fell in love
Because I can't admit
The part I played in both our pain
When I said we should split
