I want a man to look at me
As children look at snow
Before the hardships that it brings
Dim the powder's glow
I want a man to smile at me
As vets smile at peace
Knowing that they played a part
In making the strife cease
I want a man to write to me
As teens write on their tests
Spewing their thoughts endlessly
Giving no thought to rests
I want a man to grasp at me
As florists grasp a rose
Respectful of the painful thorns
But still drawing it close
And I want a man to love me
As captains love their ships
Shouting that they'd rather drown
Than let it leave their grips
