FIRST TASK
<————•••————>
Cass put a spoonful of cereal into her mouth while looking around the table. She was still very sleepy and definitely not a morning person at all. Especially those cold mornings bothered her, when she stood up from beneath her warm blanket and a wave of cold air hit her. It made her, even so early in the morning, already feel miserable.
It wasn't any better that today was the first task and they had to be outside for that, meaning that she would be even more cold in the process of the day. The only good thing was, that all classes of the day were canceled.
Breakfast could have been not half as bad, but since Jasper was even worse in those cold mornings, he decided to skip the meal altogether to sleep in.
So she had much time to let her half-lidded eyes wander around the room. The Hufflepuff table was in turmoil, students were storming around and wishing Cedric only the best.
She wanted to support him as well but wasn't sure whether or not it would be awkward.
They had dated briefly at the end of her 4th and beginning of her 5th year, only mere weeks after she had broken up with Adrian Pucey. Cedric was always one of her finer dating choices, as Alice had put it. Adrian on the other hand, she wasn't particularly fond of him.
And since then, she hadn't really dated anyone. She had failed talking stages here and there or a few hook ups but never anything serious, not that she desperately needed an established relationship to be happy.
Then she let her eyes wander further to the Gryffindor table, which made her heart drop slightly. Harry was sitting with Hermine, who tried to feed him some plain toast, which he refused to eat. The poor boy was nervous and she was nervous for him too.
Suddenly she felt eyes bore into her and as she searched, she found Fred looking at her, only for a brief moment, but he was looking at her.
Cass immediately smiled to herself, which she turned into a cough rather rapidly to cover the smile.
She focused back on her cereal, urging down the last few bites before getting up from the table.
An hour must have passed until all the students from the three schools had gathered in the arena, where, as Dumbledore had announced earlier, the champions would have to fight dragons.
Cass' blood had run cold when she heard those words. Her anxiety wasn't letting her rest, the palms of her hands were sweaty even though it was extremely cold out and her breathing was faster than average. Alice and Jasper both had noticed earlier and tried their best to help, but this was something she had to help herself with.
