"Bethany… You can't keep hogging all of the warm water, you know…" Kara's voice sounded from the other side of the restroom door.
"I can and I will," Bethany—-Kara's fraternal twin sister—-taunted back at her as the sound of running water continued on.
Kara groaned as she leaned backward against the wall—-Bethany would take hours in there, that much Kara was aware of. What's so important that she needs to remain in there for hours? Some of us need to go in there, she thought to herself.
Bethany used her age to her advantage; sure, she and Kara were twins, but Bethany was the older twin—-due to this fact, Bethany always got first dibs on everything… Who got to use the shower first, who got to use the television… Even who got to ride shotgun in the car.
"How long's she been in there?" Nicolas, the twins' eight-year-old half-brother, asked as he approached Kara.
"Hours," Kara replied to her younger brother. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say she was summoning the Devil in there." She laughed a little.
"She could do that, you know…" Nicolas remarked. "You two are antichrists, right?"
Kara exhaled heavily. "Yeah… The Devil's supposedly Bethany and I's father… But I really wouldn't use the term 'antichrist'." Kara was never big on religion and her mother's confession on this topic had left her completely confused.
"Lucky," Nico said. "It would be so cool to have a demon father."
"Archangel technically," Kara corrected, sighing.
"Regardless," Nicolas began to say. "You two are so much cooler than me… I mean… Look at me. I'm just a basic, boring human." Nicolas seemed a little bit upset by that prospect, because he soon hung his head afterwards.
"And that's okay," Kara quickly told her younger half-brother as she patted his back. "Sometimes that's the best way to be… You don't have to worry about accidentally setting your boss on fire."
Nicolas laughed a little at Kara's comment. "True."
"All you have to worry about is school… and your future job," Kara added in, gripping onto her younger brother's shoulder. "Oh… and taxes." She then tickled her brother. "Taxes are a pain in the ass."
Nico started to giggle, squirming a little.
The bathroom door began to open.
Kara let go of Nicolas, starting toward the door.
"What about you?" Nicolas asked, trying to catch his breath.
"Hm? What about me?"
"Do you have to pay taxes?" The eight-year-old boy asked his older half-sister.
"Nope," Kara replied, smacking her lips against themselves, putting extra emphasis on the 'P'.
"Why not?" Nicolas asked, cocking his head slightly to the side with his tone full of confusion.
Kara shrugged in response. "I guess the government doesn't want demons to pay taxes." She laughed a little.
"Cursed money?" The young boy added.
Kara nodded. "Exactly."
The restroom door opened to reveal Bethany and her soon-to-be one-year-old son, Gaël. "All yours," Bethany told her younger twin sister.
Kara turned to face Bethany. "You know… If you were giving Gaël a bath, you could've said something… and not make it seem like you were taking three showers."
