Rain poured down heavily on the sidewalks and streets as Kara continued to walk.

Kara shoved her hands deep within her jacket pockets as the heavy rainfall continued to wet her pink hair.

Bits of wet pink hair fell into Kara's face, temporarily blocking her line of sight.

Kara huffed, attempting to blow the wet hair from her face—-she wasn't very successful. She sighed as she sped up her walking to a brisk pace instead of a leisurely one.

Kara continued to cross the sidewalk as a car sped past her, tearing right through a puddle on the road, and splashing the young demon.

Kara blinked a few times in disbelief as she held her arms out a little. "Did… Did I just get… splashed?" She began, still trying to blink the water out of her amber eyes.

"Crap," she groaned. The universe really does hate me, huh?

Kara sighed before running her hands over her face to try to wipe the water off before flicking her hands. She shook her head before continuing on her way down the wet sidewalks.

Thunder crackled in the sky above.

"Great… a storm," the young demon groaned to herself as she continued walking.

A lighting crack shot down from the sky, coming to rest a few feet away from Kara.

Kara jumped, yelping. "What the hell!" She desperately tried to catch her breath.

Kara's hand was pressed against her flat chest as she continued to look at the charred bit of sidewalk that lay before her—-her heart raced and she continued to breathe heavily.

Kara blinked a few more times in disbelief before she once again continued down the sidewalk, grumbling, her expression falling even more so than before. "Bad luck… That's all I ever seem to have." She huffed, continuing down the sidewalk.

Kara came to a halt outside of the Thao residence, still standing in the heavy rain.

"Dylan! Dude!" Kara shouted. "Open up! I know you're in there! You never leave your house!"

Dylan's younger sister, Delta, opened the door.

"Kara," the eleven-year-old responded as she looked Kara up and down.

"Delta…" Kara responded, trying to greet the younger girl in a gentle tone, despite the fact she was having a terrible day. "I was looking for—" Kara was cut off.

"Aubrie!" Delta shouted as she continued to grip the edge of the door, calling over her shoulder into the dwelling.

Kara froze when she heard the name of Dylan and Delta's sister.

"Your ex-girlfriend is here to see you!" Delta shouted.

"No, no, no," Kara began to say to Delta, shaking her head, her orange eyes wide with terror.

Dylan approached. "Delta!" He began to scold his younger sister in an annoyed tone. "Don't do that."

Delta huffed, letting go of the door and heading further into the home.

Dylan tilted his head toward the home. "Come on. You're soaked."

Kara sighed before entering the Thao residence—-Dylan closed the door behind her.

"You get splashed or something?" Dylan asked his friend.

Kara nodded. "Yeah. I did." She shifted her weight onto the other leg. "And I almost got struck by lightning." She sighed. "It almost seems like the universe hates me."

Dylan blinked a few times in disbelief at his friend's words. "Yeah… You're right. The universe does hate you, Kara—-it hates you so much." He held out a towel to her.

"Gee! Thanks! That makes me feel so much better." Kara took the towel and dried off her hair. After setting the towel aside, she ran a hand through her somewhat wet, pink hair and fixed it, sighing.

"But yeah… the universe doesn't like us demons," Dylan told Kara, picking up a bag of popcorn that was sitting on the table near him. He fished out a handful of pieces, cradling them in the palm of his hand. "We're supposed to be the villain of every single story. We don't get anything nice. We're just supposed to suffer for eternity."

Dylan shoved the popcorn into his mouth, chewing. "Mm… It's like a punishment to us."

Kara felt her heart drop. "A punishment?"

Dylan nodded. "Yeah. A punishment for us being blood-thirsty demons."

"But we didn't choose to be," Kara interjected.

"Maybe, but," Dylan began, swallowing. "...the universe doesn't seem to care about that."

Kara looked down at the ground. "Great."

"I can't do this anymore," Aubrie's—-Dylan's twin sister—-voice echoed from a nearby just down the hallway.

Kara froze once again upon hearing her ex-girlfriend's voice. Slowly, Kara looked up and down the hall.

"But you've done this for almost two years, kính thưa!" Mrs. Thao responded.

"But it's been hell, mom," Aubrie replied. "Just… take him… Give him to someone else."

Soon, Aubrie and Mrs. Thao made their way down the hallway.

Aubrie has an infant in hand. She froze. "Kara."

Kara felt her breath get caught in her throat. "A-Aubrie." Her gaze drifted to the child. "Who's…" She trailed off.

"This is Greyson," Aubrie replied. She seemed annoyed about having to introduce the little boy.

"How old is he?" Kara asked her ex-girlfriend, softly.

      "Almost two," Aubrie answered.

"Almost… two?" Kara sounded a little shocked. "And we broke up…"

"Just under three years ago… Yeah," Aubrie said as she got closer to Kara. "This kid's a pain in my ass. All he does is whine, scream, and cry." Aubrie shook her head. "I hate him. I swear."

Kara froze upon hearing Aubrie's words. "Y-You don't mean that, Aubrie."

     "I do, actually," Aubrie replied.

"But he's your son," Kara interjected. "You can't just say you hate him."

"I can and I will," Aubrie responded. She put Greyson in Kara's arms. "And now he's your problem, Satuman." Aubrie didn't even say goodbye to Greyson before leaving the home and heading down the road in the rain.

Kara blinked a few times in disbelief before looking down at the little boy who was squirming in her arms. I have a son?, she questioned herself in shock.

Greyson continued to squirm around in Kara's arms, upset.

"Sorry about her," Mrs. Thao told Kara before sighing and heading into another room. "That girl is going to be the death of me, I swear."

Kara continued to stare down at Greyson before looking out the open door into the rain where Aubrie had gone.
