Kara's head was in excruciating pain. At first, Kara didn't even want to get up—-she just wanted to continue to lay in the position she was in with her forehead pressed against the edge of the rink.
“Oh shit,” Mycah replied, clearly entertained by this new development. “She just face-planted!”
“Really hard,” Sage added on. “...against the edge of the rink.”
Leslie's breath felt like it was caught in her throat as her red eyes continued to remain locked on Kara's slumped over form. She swallowed. “S-Shit,” she stammered.
“That had to hurt honestly,” Mycah remarked. “...that was one hell of a jump.”
Kara’s ears felt like they were ringing. Oh crap, she thought to herself. She wanted to move—-she really did, but she didn't think she could bring herself to.
Leslie's heart rate quickened when Kara didn't get up. She looked over to her three-year-old son. “Tomi… Mama needs you to stay here, okay? I'll be right back.”
Sage moved closer to Tomi in a protective way as Leslie got up from her place on the bleachers overlooking the rink.
Leslie carefully made her way down the bleachers and to the floor. She walked up to the edge of the rink to get a better look at Kara, who was still laying down on the ice.
Greyson began to cry as Dylan wrapped an arm around him.
“Shh,” Dylan began to tell the crying little boy. “She'll be okay. I promise.”
Leslie looked over to Dylan and Greyson. Her eyes widened a bit with recognition when she saw Dylan. That's Mycah's demon, she thought to herself. She approached the two and then asked, “Is he okay?”
Dylan looked up at Leslie and then shook his head—-he continued to rub Greyson's arm in an attempt to comfort him. “Considering he just saw his mama wipe out on the ice? No.”
Leslie's heart sank even more so than before. Mama? She looked back to Kara's shape on the ice. My demon has a baby of her own?
Leslie moved back over to the edge of the rink, unsure of what to do. Come on. This is a no brainer. You hate demons. Just leave her be and pretend like you didn't see anything whatsoever.
Leslie bit her lip at that thought. But… that poor little boy sounds so distraught…
She'll be fine, she thought to herself.
“Then why hasn't she gotten up yet?” Leslie then asked herself in a very quiet whisper.
Dammit. Leslie took a deep breath before moving around the edge of the rink to the opening in the barrier. She kneeled by Kara. “Hey… Are you okay?”
Kara could feel blood pooling out of a wound in her forehead as she continued to lay with her head tilted to the side. She knew the other woman had asked her a question, but Kara couldn't seem to find the strength to answer out loud. Dammit! I should be able to say a simple ‘no’. Why can't I?
Leslie's mouth grew dry when the other woman didn't answer her. Crap! She's really hurt isn't she? Leslie let her eyes scan the surrounding area before noticing blood splatters on the barrier. She swallowed, her breath shaky.
Kara groaned in pain.
Well… At least she's making some sort of noise, Leslie began to think to herself. That's a good sign.
Kara felt tired—-she felt like she'd pass out at any moment.
“Hey, hey…” Leslie began as she lightly patted Kara's back. “You hit your head really bad… Are you going to be alright?”
Kara groaned, still struggling to compose comprehensive words.
Leslie bit her lip. Fuck! “You're bleeding, you know…”
Figured as much, Kara thought, sleepily. Crap. I'm so fucking tired. She yawned.
Leslie flinched when Kara yawned—-her heart rate quickened. She tried to force herself not to panic. Keep calm, Leslie. You can handle this. We'll deal with this demon… Then you, Tomi, Sage, and Mycah can go home and pretend this never happened… Well, until the binding, that is. She gently patted Kara's back. “Hey, hey… Don't fall asleep, alright?”
“Mm… I'm tired,” Kara whimpered, softly. Kara felt shocked that she was actually able to get words out this time. “My head hurts so bad.”
Leslie rubbed Kara's back. “I know… But you're gonna have to listen to me. Don't go to sleep… Please.”
Darkness slowly slinked into the edges of Kara's vision, gradually growing in size. Her eyelids felt heavy—-they fluttered a few times before closing.
“Hey, hey,” Leslie began as she shook Kara a little. “Kara?”
No response.
A little bit more time passed of Kara being unresponsive.
“Dammit,” Leslie said as her hand fumbled into her pocket pulling out her phone. She called ‘112’ and held up the phone to her ear, explaining what happened, trembling a little as she did. “We need some help… Um… Someone was trying to do jumps on the ice… And she hit her head against the edge of the rink really hard. There's blood on the barrier… on the ice and on her forehead. She's unresponsive now.”
“Where are you?” the voice on the other end of the line seemed to echo.
“We're um…” Leslie looked around, unsure of what to say. She wasn't familiar with the facilities in the small town outside of the Clervaux area.
Dylan, who was nearby, holding a crying Greyson in his arms, said to Leslie, “Royaume de Glace… in Avithuine.”
Leslie repeated what Dylan said. “Royaume de Glace, in Avithuine.”
“Luxembourg?” The dispatcher asked.
“Mhm,” Leslie responded. “Luxembourg.”
“Someone will be there shortly.”
The dispatcher was correct—-soon medics arrived.
“What do we have?” One asked after Leslie hung up and put her phone away again.
“Adolescent male, I'd assume,” the man said.
Leslie's heart sunk at that comment.
“Unresponsive,” the man said to the other medic.
The medics then carried Kara out, quickly to the ambulance parked outside.
Dylan, while holding onto Greyson, picked up Kara's duffle bag and ran outside as well.
Leslie went up the bleachers quickly, picking up Tomi and heading outside too, with Mycah and Sage following not too far behind.
When Leslie did make it outside with Tomi, she was just in time to see the ambulance driving away.
