Serena was at her locker, taking out her books from her locker for her afternoon lectures when all of a sudden, a hand grabs her from behind and another one grabs her by the neck.

"Finally! The angel without a soulmate!"

"Oh, yeah, baby!"

"She's even more attractive in person!"

"And powerful too! I mean, she does come from heaven."

Arms surrounded Serena and her mouth was covered by an unfamiliar hand. She started to scream. In a sense of despair, she started to flail with her legs and shot her one leg up to kick one of the guys in the part where it hurts.

He fell to the ground and wailed in pain like a child.

Serena kept on using her strength and slowly knocked each guy out. From headbutts to making two ram into each other, she got the boys under control.

Until, the last guy standing grabbed her off guard and pinned her to the lockers, clapped his hand over her mouth and with his other hand, grabbed her by the neck so she could barely make a sound.

"Listen here, little girl. You're going to be my slave tonight. And you better not tell anybody about this. I'm only keeping your heart beating since you're mildly attractive."

Serena's eyes were pleading for mercy and her face was paling out to a faint blue.

That was when she bit the boy's hand and he let go of her. He attempted to slap her, but Serena slipped away from him and used a disguise spell to cover her tracks.

However, the spell backfired and the boy started to chase after her.

Never in her life had she been in a state of panic like this. Where was Nikolai? He had to be around somewhere. Oh no, this guy was getting on her tracks.

And now, he was shooting fireballs from somewhere. His wand perhaps and Serena only had miliseconds to dodge them before they could hit her. In the nick of time, she dodged, but the flames started to burn her shoes.

Finally, she was cornered. The fireballs stopped and she could face the guy that was doing this to her.

"Please! What do you want from me?"

"The question is, what don't I want from you? I want to be your soulmate. And besides, for being an extremly powerful witch, you sure are a coward in situations like these."

"I..."

Never had been in a confrontation like this before, that's why. She didn't want to admit her truth.

"How many boys leave you speechless?" He inched closer to her. "Because you leave so many breathless with not a word to compute."

"I don't know. Really, I don't."

"Ah, I see. You're just being humble. And, I will finish you, and possibly make you finish."

Serena shook her head and closed her eyes, bracing for impact.

The guy was towering over her, looming closely in her eyes, he had a sinister smirk that hid eyes that drove the insanity out of him.

A phantom suddenly came in front of the guy and he broke his tough boy exterior, screaming and running around like a paranoid person in a haunted maze and ran away from Serena. She, now was in shock and saw a man with broad shoulders, red hair that grazed his face, and glasses.

He walked closer to her and by the time he was face to face with her, she was speechless and terrified.

"Are you ok?"

The way he spoke was so familar to Serena. She nodded slightly and his arms wrapped around her. As soon as she was in his embrace, his true form came to Serena.

"Nikolai?"

The familar features of Nikolai were in front of her. For the first time, she could see that he had a sense of worry on his face, and expression that she had never seen him wear before.

He examined her face and neck, and used a small dash of healing magic on his fingers to ease all of the parts where Serena had been affected.

"Ow...."

"It's alright. You're alright." His voice was a faint whisper.

Serena could barely feel her feet. By now, her shoes had fizzled into nothing.

Nikolai took notice of this.

"What happened to your shoes?"

"Beats me."

"Here. Let me give you new shoes."

He took out his wand and with a quick flick, her socks were covered by a pair of all white loafers with small bejeweled bows.

"Best part about them is that they don't disappear after midnight. They're all yours."

"Nikolai." She smiled and ran to hug him.

"Woah, woah. Easy there." His voice softened as he spoke.

He played with a curl of Serena's hair and smiled, so that she didn't notice.

Suddenly...

"Hey! Who do you think you are?"

The voices of the boys were back and the two of them jumped off each other and faced them.

"Her soulmate." Nikolai answered.

"But..."

He put himself in front of her.

"I know I'm breaking the promise, but this is for your safety."

"Ok."

"So, you guys just gang up on innocent women because you feel like it?" Nikolai tapped his wand.

"You have no business being here."

"Well, neither do you. Do me a favor, and pay respect to the women in your lives. Espically, all of your soulmates. Pathetic, really. Do you treat them the way you treat her?"

The guys looked down in shame and refused to answer.

"Cat got your tounge, eh? Guess you all just have the brain of a goldfish. Now, scram before I turn you all turn into worms."

Nikolai didn't use any anger but rather had a cold and serious demeanor, which seemed scarier.

All of the guys backed away and Nikolai snapped his fingers after they left.

"They won't remember me saying that I was your soulmate, so I technically didn't break the promise."

"Well, at least you keep your promises."

She walked up to him and squeezed herself atop his right arm.

He slightly brushed her hair around and then looked at the hall.

"Manwhores."

Serena looked up in confusion.

"That's what those guys are, they are obsessed with new bait, even if they have a girl at home. It's disgusting really."

"Seemed like they were 4th years."

"They were."

Serena sighed.

"Would you like to spend afternoon tea with me?" She changed the topic as if nothing happened.

"Of course."
