Serena's condition had only turned downhill from that day on, as the more she was awake and let her demon inside her thoughts consume her, the worse her condition would get. Eventually, no matter how many herbs and spells Nikolai gave to Serena to make her fall asleep, it ended up making Serena develop a strange tolerance to sedatives.

No matter what he did, Nikolai felt powerless against this force in her body. The way it protected itself from anything that Nikolai did was absurb and made Nikolai study, dive into the rabbit hole of demons and every little thing about them. No matter what it took to get Serena back, he would do anything for her.

In order to protect her and the academy, he took her underneath the academy in the catacombs and gave her a comfortable space that had no ressemblance to any form of intensive care.

"Wow Nikolai. I'm impressed that you're still here by my side, after all that I put you through."

"This is for your own good."

"What is? Leaving me in an area where I could be left to die?"

"Unless you lose this fight, then you won't die. And I swear on my life that I will not let you lose this fight so easily."

"You sound so sure of yourself. Just admit defeat. I have."

Serena's eyes twinkled in between red and blue, but with the red hue being more dominant.

"Serena. Why? Why are you just giving up? What happened to the girl that wanted to live? The girl that wanted to experience life as a human, no matter if what happened was good, bad, or ugly."

"You want her back until you have to deal with a borderline idiot. Come on, no need to sugarcoat anything to me."

Nikolai sighed and bowed down to her level.

"Idiot or not, I wouldn't ever raise my voice towards you. Life is strange and it is difficult so. That's what makes everyday worth living. You see new sights, meet new people, and have experiences that are once in a lifetime."

"So, then can I go and live like you are telling me to?"

Nikolai shook his head.

"I'm afraid that is not possible right now. Your body is in too weak of a state, and your mind is far from stable to go and show your face. Please, this is for the best."

Serena got up and sat on the bed, facing Nikolai.

"This is for the best. Come on, I know that you are hiding something from me. Something that you are afraid will ruin us entirely." She said in a sarcastic tone.

"If I let you out now, then you would kill people. Or, people would kill you."

"Overprotective much?"

"You say it like there's nothing wrong. I know the real Serena is in there. Just let her out!"

Serena kicked him in the face with her right leg.

"OW!" He yelped.

Serena's eyes soon turned blue.

"Oh, goodness. Oh no."

She jumped off the bed and comforted him.

"Are you ok? What happened?" She examined his face.

"You have some strong legs. God DAMN."

"Well, you might have some bruising later but you look fine and dandy for now. Whoever did this to you is going to pay."

He looked in her eyes and started to see the blue turn to red once again. As soon as the colors changed, she slapped him in the face.

"OUCH!"

"You never learn, do you?"

"What did I even do?"

"What didn't you do?" She mocked him.

"This is getting out of hand. Not only annoying, but painful."

"Good, I hope you have to deal with every second of pain, sweet sweet pain."

She left him on the floor and started to go for the door. But, the door was locked and Serena glared at him while he was on the floor.

"Ah, the doors locked. Was this your doing? Or, are you some sort of sick and twisted masochist that wants me to hurt you? If it's the latter, then I will give you the greatest experience of pain that your body has ever felt."

By slightly bending down, she grazed his face with her hand and then moaned.

"How about you be a good boy and listen to the lady?"

Nikolai saw her sinister smirk and her red eyes glow. His body was burning up and his male instincts cause him to jump up and embrace him.

"I'll be your slave. Just, let her go."

"We'll see about that."

Nikolai let Serena give him little bites on his neck, her teeth were more sharp than usual and the bites left a strange tang with heat. He quickly fumbled in her pockets of her nightgown and grabbed her wand. He got the wand ready and pointed it behind Serena.

"I knew there was a reason that you wanted to get into my pants. You want to take me down with all of your might. Think I'd let you slide that easily?"

"You let your guard down enough so I assume so."

"Little bitch. Fine, you're off the hook. For now."

Serena's eyes glimmered back to blue and she slightly tumbled into Nikolai's arms.

"Shhhh. It's alright. Everything is going to be ok." Nikolai brushed through Serena's hair.

With Serena buried into his chest, Nikolai felt a sigh of relief. All was fine for now.

"I'll let you get some rest and I'll have everything sorted out. Think peaceful thoughts, keep an optimistic attitude. Please Serena, this is what must be done."

Serena slowly looked into Nikolai's eyes, but the bite marks alarmed her.

"W-Where did all of those bite marks come from? Heebie Jeebies, they look like they sting."

"They do." Nikolai admitted honestly. "But, they were worth it."

"Did I give them to you?"

"Yeah." Nikolai stretched his words.

Serena's eyes widened in shock.

"My head hurts."

"I bet it does. I'll let you go to sleep. That will probably help you out."

"Nikolai? May I ask what is going on?"

"I can't tell you now. But, when the time comes, I'll explain everything to you."

"Promise?"

"I promise. Now, I'll you rest."

Serena nodded and went to the bed, tucked herself under the covers and Nikolai started to cast a spell full of swirly dreams that you let her have a sweet dream and a peaceful rest.

"Seditana Por La Roe."

And Serena went out in a second.
