Ever since Nikolai met Serena, all he could keep in hearing was her name. What was so special about her? The fact that she could skip a grade? Her family being an affluent part of the world? Guys with soulmates and soulmateless guys had her name off the tip of their tounge. It was quite disgusting to say the truth, since the same boys that claimed that they were dedicated to their soulmates suddenly wanted to trade them away for Serena.

How pathetic.

He closed his eyes for a second and woke up in an unfamiliar ballroom. His everyday wear was suddenly a royal prince's suit and there were all sorts of males in the room. Not a single girl in sight.

To make sure he wasn't dreaming, he pinched himself. Nope, this is all real.

But, why is he here? What is this trying to prove?

Chatter filled the room as well as the smell of male perfume, nearly nausiating to make even the maniest of men to get sick.

He was squashed in between a crowd of guys and no matter how many times he tried to push away, he got sucked back into the crowd.

Suddenly, everybody stopped talking and moving around.

Nikolai looked up.

At the top of the stairs was none other than Serena.

He had to control his jaw from nearly dropping. She wore a pink ball gown made of cherry blossoms and her hair had cherry blossom petels in it as well. Naturally, she always shined in a room, but she looked spectaular.

Slowly, she walked down the stairs and the crowd of men gravitated towards her.

Nikolai, however stood in place.

At the foot of the stairs, she paused and locked eyes with Nikolai. Nikolai saw her eyes and took a moment to focus on her beauty. He wondered why him out of all of the guys, some of them are more suited for her than he will ever be.

The crowd that gravitated around Serena parted like waves as she and Nikolai were only a short distance away from each other.

Her smile widened even more at the sight of him and he felt his feet move him towards her.

Soon enough, the two were nearly face to face and their breaths alligned with the other.

"May I have this dance?" He asked softly.

"Of course." She mirrored his soft voice.

The two of them started to slow dance and the mood seemed to calm down.

"Why did you choose me out of all of the guys on the floor?" Nikolai wondered.

"Because." She beamed a smile. "No matter how many guys are in the room, my eyes seem to only focus on you."

"That's quite bold to say to somebody not long after you meet them."

She giggled.

"I'm just being honest."

He twirled her around and noticed under her dress was a pair of glass slippers. Suddenly, he realized that he was in a fairytale story. He wanted to ask her how she got here, but he was far too immersed in her beauty.

Now, he understood why so many guys were in awe of her. She is heaven.

They danced in silence for most of the time and everybody was focused on them now. This would not be good for either of them. Suddenly, Nikolai started to become anxious. All of these eyes on him were bad enough, but with her, he was going to be in trouble now.

But yet, he couldn't let her go just yet.

He looked in her eyes, blue like the sky on a clear day. A feeling in him suddenly started to arise.

"You look beautiful." The words slipped out of his mouth.

"And you look handsome as well."

The two of them smiled at each other.

"Do angels ever have balls like this one?"

"They do, but I always was too young to dance with somebody. I watched my parents and my older brother dance though. It always looked magical, but being in it feels like you're flying, like you feel so free."

"Let me give you that feeling."

"What?"

Suddenly, he picked her up in the air and started to twirl her.

He placed her down gracefully.

"Did you like it?"

She nodded.

Serena wanted to get more closer with Nikolai, but felt scared to. His touch was making her body burn up in all sorts of new sensations. Looking at him look at her made her burn up even more.

This felt so strange to both.

If only she knew that he felt the same way as her.

Suddenly, a bell rung in the distance.

Serena felt her face go pale.

"I have to go!"

She started to run and pushed through some of the guys.

While going up one of the stairs, she lost her glass slipper.

Nikolai picked it up and continued chasing her, down the hall and through the front.

By the time she was outside the castle, he was only a few feet from her.

She was about to drive away in her carriage until she saw Nikolai.

"I broke your promise, just forget about what happened."

"But...."

"I got too attached already, let's not talk about it."

She drove away and left Nikolai in a state of shock.

He had the glass slipper in his hands and threw it on the ground.

The slipper shattered into a million pieces.

He saw the hurt and the pain in her face and her voice. It was unlike the happy go lucky or the angry Serena that he was familar with, and all of a sudden, he felt like he fucked up.

That was when as he was deep in thought that he started to see his surroundings slowly start to change. The outside world and the castle behind him started to morph back into his bedroom and the staircase that he was sitting on turned into his bed.

He closed his eyes for another moment and laid back in his bed.

This was all just a dream, Nikolai. It was only just a dream.

But yet, it felt so real.

Her presence and her touch made him go crazy. The room and all of the figures had lives and they saw everything.

He closed his eyes and let the remaining moonlight have his body rest before he goes and starts his day.
