"Come on. Just let her out."

"If I can keep you captive for as long as I want, then I'd be the happiest wizard alive."

Nikolai looked up at Serena, her eyes have been red for days. Not to mention that he was trapped in a set of chains, while Serena looked down at him like he was worthless.

"You can't keep on doing this forever."

"I could, but that means I would have to take care of you."

Nikolai rattled with his chains and gave her a glance.

"So, take care of me then. What? You do it all the time."

"Stubborn as ever."

"I should say the same to you."

Serena's face intensified with anger, and with a snap of her fingers she let Nikolai free from his chains.

"You stupid little whack job, all you've been doing is getting on my nerves for the past few days, and I can no longer stand it!"

"That meant that it's working."

"Shut up before I stab you."

"Stab me, mommy." Nikolai teased.

Serena slowly strutted towards him and hit her wand against her hands a few times.

"Oh, I guess that's how you wanna be now isn't it? Why didn't you tell me earlier? This could've been finished a lot sooner."

"You will never phase me. I know that you're corrupting the truth Serena. Serena would never engage in combat unless it's an emergency, unless her life depends on it, or if she's trying to save somebody."

"That's why she was so easy to corrupt. An innocent heart, and an innocent soul, too scared to fight. Defenseless, weak, the status of an angel only propelled her to her doom." She aimed her wand at him. "She never put up a fight at all, only people that were close to her would fight for her."

"We both know that's a lie."

"And what kind of proof do you have to prove that?"

Nikolai clicked his tongue.

"She defeated one of the most important figures of dark magic by herself. That's a fret, that not even the most skilled wizards can do without risking their lives."

"But you were at the scene."

"She defeated him yes. I was there to save her before she hit her death. If I didn't put up that magical barrier, she would've been crushed to death by falling tiles."

"How did you even get there then?"

"It is my duty as a soulmate to protect her. Her pain is my pain, her suffering is my suffering. If one of us dies, the other can't live without them."

" You sound like you love her. Hopefully, you can prove it."

Serena dropped her wand and lunged towards Nikolai, giving him little time to prepare himself for the surprise attack. Her moves were impulsive, untamable, and there was a strange sense of a conflict in her actions, almost as if a secondary force was attempting to stop her, but was being overpowered. Nikolai could barely dodge as Serena's attacks stung his body, and blood was starting to trickle down in the deeper wounds.

Nikolai did not say a word, and Serena stopped, catching her breath. Tears filled her eyes which now turned to blue. As soon as she saw Nikolai's clothes tattered and blood nearly everywhere with a large bloody X on his chest, she realized what she did.

"NIKOLAI! No no no no."

She ran to him and started to cast a few healing spells to fix his wounds. Most of the wounds healed back to normal, but the large X remained a scar on his chest.

"I-I'm sorry. I-I couldn't control myself."

Nikolai remained silent as she patched him up.

"Where are we? What is this place?"

"The catacombs. You must listen to me. The demon in your body taken over your soul for a long time, and now... it seems like he's gone."

"You thought you could kill me that easily?" An unknown voice came behind Serena.

Both Nikolai and Serena jumped as they were approached by a black shadowy figure, taller than both of them, lacked a face or heart, but had a silhouette of a normal person.

"You....." Serena's speech shook.

"The child of a demonic lord. The demon that caused physical harm, your worst fucking nightmare. Quite a comedy, is it not? I was here all along. Though my body is gone, my soul always remained."

"What do you want from me? Why are you doing this?" Serena yelped and Nikolai held her in his arms to protect her.

"Sweet revenge. You were the reason of my death. And yet you showed no guilt towards it."

"You were a demon, causing pain on an angel! Ruining the bond that heaven and hell share! If it weren't for you, then tensions between heaven and hell wouldn't be strained now!"

The demon let out an evil snicker.

"Oh Serena. You're still the same girl you were when we met. But yet, you've turned beautiful like a wondrous blossom. It seems as if everybody around you is drawn to you."

Serena pulled back and Nikolai went forward.

"And you, what an interesting pairing. Maybe the the prophecy might be true after all."

"What prophecy?" Serena asked.

"Oh, nothing. You two will find out in time."

"So be it." Nikolai faced the demon, aiming his wand directly at the demon.

"You're going to attack me? Why don't you let the girl attack me instead?" The demon taunted.

"She's been through enough with you."

Serena was trembling plenty in fear.

"In the name of Nikolai Reve and my allergence of love, I expel your demonic nature from all dimensions of the universe!"

Nikolai's wand let out a blinding flash of light and both Serena and Nikolai shut their eyes to prevent themselves from going blind.

The demon was struck with bolts of lighting and then engulfed in a blanket of flames. The screams were getting louder and soon enough, his existence faded into nothing.

What was left was a pile of black ashes. Nikolai relaxed his arm and faced Serena.

She ran into his arms with the tears in her eyes falling like waterfalls.

"I-I'm sorry for putting you though this."

He wiped her tears away before she buried herself in his chest.

"You don't deserve to suffer anymore. I will take any bullet for you. I..."

Serena cut him off by kissing Nikolai passionately. Everything now was coming back to normal.
