Love so fine - Cha Eunwoo
Second term was coming to an end, which means exams is examinations is approaching. The chemistry laboratory was filled with serious-faced students. "Bingo!" Junho said. "Hyunjin, this would indicate ferrous iron wouldn't it?"
"It should," Hyunjin replied absently.
Mr Won, the chemistry teacher came to their table. "How're you all doing?"
"Fine, sir." They chorused.
Hyunjin murmured a little. He turned around and saw Sarang filling a burette with a base solution, eyebrows pucked in concentration. She looked up, their eyes met and she quickly glanced away. She wondered why he had been staring.
Whenever people said clichés like the darkest part of the night is just before dawn, they were usually right, but could they also mean that the brightest days occurred before the darkest night? It was something Wang Hyunjin would think about for many years afterwards.
The days of being a schoolboy in Yon was bright: he won prizes, he was popular, loved by everyone, but the only bad thing was that he didn't tell Sarang how he felt about her.
He didn't spend thinking much about his family, especially his father. His mother was quiet and gentle and she always made sure he had good food to eat, while his father kept sending money. His sisters always dropped by to say hi because they hardly met at school.
After lunch at school, the students were told to wait in their classes because their teachers would be having a meeting with the new principal. Choyeon sat in the class with Sarang as they gisted, while Iseul was caressing her hair.
"Sarang, you know end of term meant organising the carol night with the music teacher. I need a lot of voices, would you like to sing?" Choyeon asked, expectantly.
"I can't sing," Sarang had say.
"Please sweetie, for me." Choyeon pressed.
Sarang laughed in her unexpectantly rich contralto. "Okay, I will. For you."
Choyeon danced happily. "Thanks so much."
Hyunjin walked over to the his seat beside the girls.
"Hey, Hyunjin how have you been doing?" Choyeon asked, with a dazzling smile.
"I'm fine." He replied.
Sarang got up and said she was going to the toilet but she'll be right back. She ran out of the class. Hyunjin followed her with his eyes until she was outside.
"What's that?" Hyunjin asked, pointing at a paper paper Choyeon was holding.
"Oh, this." She said. "The carol list."
"Is Sarang singing?" He heard himself asking.
"Yes," Choyeon replied.
"Can I join the choir? You're always looking for male voices."
Choyeon was astonished. "Are you sure? I know you don't like all things.."
"Don't worry, I'm fine with it." Hyunjin said. "I'll sing with you guys."
Choyeon bit her bottom lip. He's doing this because of her. I know.
The end-of-year Christmas concert took place in the hall, with a large decorative Christmas tree. During the concert, Hyunjin wore a father Christmas cap on stage, which made everybody laugh, and he sang in the bass section of the choir. He had turned up for every rehearsal.
"Master Wang, you have a fine baritone," the music said, delighted. "Where have you been hiding?"
Sarang sang all the soprano solos and the group sounded so beautiful that no one could help but be touched. It was a lovely performance, everybody agreed. The music teacher felt like hugging them all. Hyunjin offered a beautiful bow at the end of the Carol which made everyone happy especially the girls who were cooing at him. The handsome schoolboy smiled affectionately. Everybody loves Hyunjin, the whole school seem to be saying.
