A Way To Heal

She cries
but then laughs
and says she's fine -
but we all know
she's next to him,
dying inside.
Love and memories
can't fix a heart
left beating all alone.

She, too, screams for the one she lost
and tries to numb away the pain.
A child left stumbling
in the dark,
so young to have
such a broken heart.

I want to fix you
and your pain,
pick up his remains
and trade my life away.
You'd be okay again,
and I could watch
from somewhere
as the world continued to spin.

If I had it my way,
he'd rise and laugh
and I would fall,
take my last breath
so he could breathe once more.
You wouldn't be
lost or lonely
with your favorite guide
around again.
By the fire, you all
would share
memories of me
and I could listen, though
you wouldn't see.
