O silence, quiet silence
I hear his voice when you speak.
O silence, painful silence
I wish he would just leave.
Maybe then I might be free
from the silence he leaves. There are days
when I can't sleep
and numbness takes over me.
There are days, o silence,
when I hear him speak
before he turns to dust.
I scream
in the silence
but he won't come back to me.I talk to friends, but
their comfort is so hollow.
I smile and laugh but
it's all for show.
Words, spoken or written,
don't fill the silence
he left behind.
O silence, why do you
bring me such grief?O silence, mourning silence,
why do these tears fall?
I try to tell myself there was life well-lived -
but, o silence, I find myself
unable to believe it
amidst all of the quiet.
