The Ice Queen

I just wanted you
to feel the way I do,
only for a moment.
I wanted the queen
brought to her knees
to see
what suffering
she set upon her people.
No, not again,
not repeatedly,
I didn't want it to fester,
but I wanted the dagger to pierce
so
you'd know how it was to bleed.

What can bleed when there's nothing
but stone?
The temperature dropped,
and the world froze.
I heard ice in your words.
"Don't approach me."
I'd gotten to close
to snatching you from your throne.
You caught me traitorous,
and sentenced me to banishment.

No, you have no sense of knowing,
of feeling, how I do.
You've built a castle of beauty,
yourself its masterpiece,
but the fire within doesn't burn.
The people wander lifeless,
dolls with breath.

Yes, I hoped you'd look in the mirror,
to see the wounds
you left.
I forgot you made a decree
saying
"I don't want to look
at anything
but the perfect side of me."

Something hollow can't be harmed,
so I, as your humble, took what you
couldn't hurt,
and bruised it ten times over.
These wounds aren't yours
they are mine.
You won't even look back.
