only for them to flee.
The moon mocks her
with its reflective light
as the stars laugh.
Through reddened eyes
she reaches blindly for the night. When she's not looking,
lullabies creep in
and
beat her into submission
with
the promise of a
recharged battery.

It vows much but never delivers,
a baby never taking first breaths. The rooster crows
and
the day begins
but the sun, to her, only signals
the first flames of hell
as she drags her lifeless body
across the floors
and pretends to live once again.
