I left you behind,
in hurt and confusion-
but I did not think, when
I walked away,
of what my pain would
do to you.I was trying to cast my longing out,
trying to face the next days.
I was trying to be stronger
than the weakness that
my heart gave.I watched you drive away,
wondering what you were thinking.
"But, oh, he doesn't really care"
I said to the open air,
as the guilt began.I didn't consider your love for me,
the regard at which you held me.
I just needed some way
to flee my pain
but the wreckage
left you wounded."I have things to do,
and so does he.
It's best this way, you see,
the choice that I made."Hindsight is 20/20,
and my vision is no longer blind.
I cannot undo what I've done,
but I can plea that you would
forgive me.
