It had been almost one year since Adam and Daisy began dating. Their first anniversary was approaching quickly, but before that came Daisy's seventeenth birthday. Conveniently enough, her birthday had perfectly lined up with a little weekend trip that Adam's parents were taking. So Adam thought up a romantic way to spend their evening. He had to get everything right this time, it was their perfect opportunity.
"Make sure your brother is in bed by eight every night," Mrs. Busch said to Adam, "We'll be back on Sunday."
"Don't worry, mom," Adam said, "We'll be fine."
"And no friends over overnight," she said, "I don't need to be coming home to a big mess."
"Mom," Adam groaned, "It'll be alright, I promise."
"Okay, okay," she laughed, "I better go before your father gets impatient."
Ann turned around and headed out the door, calling out an I love you to her boys before closing the door behind her. Adam then watched his dad's car leave the driveway and he heard his younger brother behind him.
"What's for dinner?" Stephen asked.
"Oh, um..." Adam said, caught a little off guard, "I think Mom left some money, we'll just order some pizza from that new place that just opened up. Papa Ian's I think it's called."
"Okay," Steve replied, "Can I stay up late?"
"No," Adam said, "Mom said you have to be in bed by eight."
"Do I have school tomorrow?" Stevie questioned.
"No, I'm just doing what Mom told me," Adam replied.
"Awww, come on..." he whined, "They won't know..."
"Sorry," Adam said, "I don't make the rules. Besides, Daisy is coming over later and we're gonna be watching scary movies, the kind that give you nightmares."
"Mommy said no friends sleeping over..."
"She's not," Adam replied, "But you still can't stay up."
"Hmmph," Steve huffed before stomping off to his bedroom.
Adam rolled his eyes and went over to the kitchen phone to call Daisy with his plan.
Later that evening, Daisy showed up around 7:30. Adam came down the stairs when he heard the knock on the front door.
"Happy birthday, Baby!" Adam said happily while pulling Daisy inside, planting a quick kiss on his girlfriend, "I just gotta get Stevie out of the bath and get him dressed for bed."
"Take your time," Daisy said with a giggle, "We got alllll night~"
Adam went back upstairs and got Stephen into his pajamas in his room. He made sure he was ready for bed.
"I'm not even tirrrred..." he whined.
"I don't care," Adam said, "Just lay down and try, please? Then maybe tomorrow I'll let you stay up a little."
"Ugghh," his little brother sighed with a grumpy look on his face as he got into his bed.
Adam flicked the choo choo train night light on and shut the door behind him before heading back to Daisy, who was sitting on the couch in the living room.
"Alright, now that that's out of the way..." Adam said, sitting on the couch next to Daisy and leaning into her. He gave her a soft kiss.
"Hehe~" She giggled, "So, what movie we watching?"
"I actually had another idea..." Adam said with a blush, "How 'bout we go hang in the treehouse?"
"As long as we bring blankets," Daisy said, "It's a little chilly tonight."
