Well, turns out it would take more than a little disgusting vomit to get Silas to change his mind.

I couldn't believe that this was the same guy who treated me like I was just a gum under his boot a while ago. He cleaned up my mess, ran me a bath, and then made me lunch. Thankfully, I didn't get sick and I was finally able to sleep through the afternoon.

It wasn't until I heard Esra's car that I realised I had overslept. I kicked the sheets off my body and scrambled out of bed, and then I slipped into my push-ins and ran out of the room.

I just down the stairs in time for the front door to open. "Esra, I'm so sorry!"

Her brows drew together as she approached me with worry written all over her face. "Yvonne, what's wro..." She held my hand, her eyes shifting to the kitchen. "WOW!" She gasped, dropping my hand like a hot potato.

My guilt was giving me heartburn, it was completely unfair for her to return from work and still have to cook. "I know, I-" I tried to explain myself, but she was already making her way to the kitchen.

I hurried after her and came to an abrupt halt at the scene in front of me.

"Oh, my goodness, this is unbelievable! Yvonne, you are my best friend and I love you, but I know you didn't make this."

Esra was amazed, while I was bewildered. As much as I felt guilt ridden and ungrateful, I was glad she didn't have to cook because Silas had taken it upon himself to cook a feast for dinner.

"Well, your brother seems to be fond of the kitchen today," I remarked, scratching my nose.

She turned to me, looking hesitant. "Did something happen?" She asked cautiously.

My eyes widened. "Hmmm? No!" I shook my head. "Nothing happened."

I know I should have told her what went down earlier, but I did not want to cause any tension or ruin the evening. Plus, Silas has really been making an effort.

Esra went from gushing over the food, to looking at it in skepticism, I was literally holding my breath and prayed that she did not press any further. "Okay. Let me change out of these scrubs first. I'm coming."

I exhaled and dropped on the nearest chair, my hand resting on my chest as I breathed in and out. I probably shouldn't have lied to her, but I am only trying to keep the peace. These last few weeks have been draining, I don't expect things to be perfect now that I am here, but I could use a break from all the unnecessary drama.

"She's gonna figure it out, you know?" I didn't hear Silas walk in, and it was usually easier to pick up when he was around since he had loud footsteps.

I followed his movements as he moved between the sink and fridge, and I was puzzled at how he was drinking water like his life depended on it. It made me wonder if he still had room for food after this.

My eyes roamed over him, finally realising that he was dressed up. "Are you going somewhere?"

He gave me a quizzical look. "You do know I work at night, right?" He asked.

"Speaking of work, isn't your shift starting in an hour or so?"

I glanced between Esra and Silas as she made her way to her favourite sit. "In an hour?" I quipped, earning two pairs of eyes on me, and I quickly added, "Aren't you going to eat something before you leave?"

Silas looked puzzled at my question, he glanced at his sister nervously. "No," he said brashly, his eyes meeting mine as he added hastily, "I mean, I'll grab something at work."
