Awkward silence

Aurelia broke the silence by narrating the event at the mall to their grandparents. Aurora scoffed as she realized her younger sister was going to narrate it in their favour, making her look like the bad guy

And that. She did

By the time she finished, there was a frown etched unto her grandfather's face while her grandmother had a look of disbelief across hers

Her father was the first one to talk "You have to stop blaming your mother for abandoning you when in truth, you were the one who left for you grandparents house. Surely you don't expect her to chase you to the ends of the earth just so you can live with us...knowing how stubborn you are, you probably won't even give her an audience"

"And why wasn't I aware of this" her grandfather asked

"You all have to stop victimizing Rory. She was young an....."

"Dumb. She was young and dumb, still is actually and it's so obvious from her actions" Lydia interrupted aurora's grandmother, completing her statement for her

Aurora's grandmother scowled at Lydia for her rude actions "no one asked you to talk Lydia"

Lydia scoffed in disbelief as she faced her husband who looked at his mother

"Mother, you can't just embarrass her in front of her kids" Aurora's father said as he looked at his mother who in turn glared at him

They all turned their heads when at the sound of a loud bang on the table. It came from old master Rosette

"That's okay, we came here to have dinner as a family not for you all to start bickering like little kids. We'll revisit whatever you claimed happened later, okay!" Old master Rosette said calmly which caused the people them all to look around, not meeting the old man's face

With a snap of his fingers, maids trooped in, carrying trays and carts of foods. They began to serve as Alaric instructed them to. Aurora's mouth watered at the table full of different luxurious and exotic foods, the dining table looked like a mini food heaven. Aurora wasn't surprised when the maids kept the food going even when there are just a few people sitting around a huge dining table that can fit about twenty people.

She knows they can't eat it all and that's why she planned on helping them out

They started eating after old master Rosette took his first bite of the meal. It's kind of a silent rule among the socialites that nobody on the dining table is to eat before the eldest person seated there. Aurora took her time on each of the foods presented to her, she didn't bother looking up to meet her parents gaze on her the whole time. She just ate and ate and ate till she was full

After they all finished, the maids came out again in an orderly fashion to clear the table. They brought out wines and fruits and left after serving the family.

"Aurora, you need to start going soon to prepare for tommorow. What time is it starting?" Her granny asked

"The programme starts by 10 grandmother" Aurora replied enthusiastically

"Hnmm...okay. I hope you're all planning on coming too right?" Aurora's grandmother asked directing her gaze to her son and his wife

The couple looked at each other not saying anything as they took their wine glasses to take a sip

Aurora snickered

"What? Cat got your tongue, Lydia? How come you can't give an answer to my question since it seemed like you have much to say earlier" madam Romina asked with a glare at the couple

"Mom, we'll be busy tommorow, there are some issues that needs sorting out at the new branch we're planning to open soon and I must go there Tommorow" Carlos said

"The occasion is something you should attend since you're her father but if you insist you're busy, Lydia would go then. Right?" Madam Romina asked with a fake smile directed at her son's wife

Lydia eyes were wide as saucers as she didn't expect the old woman to throw her under the bus like that "Ma'am, I...I'm afraid I'd also be very busy tommorow. It's the function of an important friend tommorow and I must not miss it"

Instead of Madam Romina replying to her, it's the Old master that replied this time "Send an apology gift to that friend of yours, you must attend the ceremony tommorow. Save your face at least"

Aurelia was silent the whole time as she looked at Aurora who was devouring the dessert like it was her last meal. She scoffed

So unladylike

Aurora was amused at the whole situation as she knows that her mother would rather stay home the whole day doing nothing than attend her graduation but since the old man has talked, they know better than to refute the old man so she has no choice but to go.

Aurora was tired of the whole family drama going on and she wanted nothing than to go home and be curled up on her bed so she stood up

"Grandfather, grandmother, it's late and I think I  should be on my way home" Aurora said with a yawn

"It's quite late, should I ask Alaric to prepare your room for you? You know you'll always have a room here right? I didn't change anything when you left" Madam Romina said with a smile

"Yes grandma...It's just that the things I'll need for tommorow are there"

Old master Rosette chimed in "if the girl wants to go, let her go. She'll even waste more time here arguing with you about staying. Tsk.....tsk kids of nowadays and their privacy" he said with a playful smile on his face which surprised the audience sitting on the table. They scowled

One of the rare times the old man smiled and it's for her

"Okay, I'll have one of the drivers take you back home Rory" her grandmother said with a smile as Aurora nodded and took her jacket and bag. She faced her parents and sister before saying

"Have a great night mother and father, i hope to see you tommorow" her mother looked at her with a scowl on her face and her father just replied with a short nod. Aurelia looked away to avoid the old man and his wife to see the bitter look plastered on her face from Aurora's actions.

She's purposely ignoring her as if she still sees her as a child. Oh how she hates that sister of hers

Aurora sent a smile to her grandparents before making an exit from the large dining room. She knows her parents would probably complain about how rude she is after she's gone but she doesn't care, won't be the first time. She smirked as she recalled the bitter look on her sister's face.

That's right, she saw it, that bitter look on Aurelia's face. It's like when she wishes to get a collection of the latest bags and she found out it was sold out. Seeing that look today,  can proudly say she'd won the mini battle they had there after all, she came prepared.

After all her family's done for her, she's not going down without a fight and this is just the beginning. Good deeds are rewarded with equally good deeds, no? For now, she'll appreciate the little wins and thrive on her parents and sister's misfortune.

Afterall, she was no saint

Aurora held her head high as she strolled past the scrambling maids and out of the mansion. Great, she needed the fresh air.
