Chapter 26: why now?

Nicks pov:

My dad calls me in the middle of breakfast and everyone goes silent. charlie-who can't see my phone- looks at me curiously and i don't know what to do. i cut him out of my life but now he's calling. what if something happened to mum? i pick up and put him on speaker for everyone to hear.

Stephane: 'nick, i was hoping you would pick up!'

Nick: 'what do you want.'

Stephane: 'i know that charlie is going to give birth soon and i want to be there to meet my grandchild.'

Charlie speaks up.

Charlie: "oo yeah no we are actually not going to do that."

i get up and go over to charlie so stephane can hear him.

Charlie: "yeah you are not invited at all! you are not going to be a flaky dad and mentally abuse your son at a young age to make him 'a mAn' and than expect to meet his kids. you are a delusional narcissistic sociopath bitch. you are full of bullshit that you tell yourself to feel like man, so sit you flat-ass down,

take your testosterone, and watch some fishing shit because that makes you feel like man"

Stephane hangs up.

I look at charlie with aw. i didn't think he could pop off that hard and he did! i honestly don't know what to say but im so happy that someone actually stuck up for me to my dad (who isn't my mum).

I kiss charlie, say thank you, and walk back to the kitchen to clean up. Clover is still sitting there, shocked.

Clover: "listen if i ever pissed you off just tell me because i am terrified right now!"

Charlie just laughs and clover still looks a little scared. i giggle to myself at how these people have become my family. But all i can think is, how can he care and why now??

I decide i would just call my mom now instead of our normal time. Yes, my mum and i talk everyday at 5:45 PM (unless someone is busy so we talk earlier) but this seemed like too much news to wait.

Sarah: "nicky! is something wrong? is charlie in labor?"

Nick: "no mum nothing's wrong, per say just eventful..."

Sarah: "if this is your way of telling me charlie already gave birth, i will come down there and beat your ass with your own shoe."

Nick: "no! charlie is not in labor he didn't give birth! Dad called me wanting to be there for the birth..."

Sarah: "omg that man is such an ass. what did you say?"

Nick: "it's more of what Charlie didn't say! he was popping off on him! My favorite part is when he called him AND I QUOTE:

'a Delusional narcissistic sociopath'

Mother i died!!"

I can hear her laughing on the other side. She has always tried to keep her hatred towards my dad quiet, until i introduced him to charlie. After that we were cracking jokes about him and i only saw him a few times after that anyway.
