Keeper of the Lost Cities Story; The Lost Secret

Chapter 7

Soon Kasi, Amaira, Angin, and Bricen arrived and Kai was actually really excited to get started with Base Quest. She hadn't played the game in forever.

Angin is one of Zayne and Asher's best friends, he was really nice and often hung out with us. Lately, he hasn't been at lunch with us at Foxfire. Kai wasn't actually sure why.

"As Zayne had suggested earlier, we should play some base quest," Kai says to everyone. "My backyard is pretty big and it should work,"

"Ohh that sounds like fun," Gracelyn said. She had sat down next to Zayne instead of Kasi, which made Kai wonder if she liked him back.

"Yes! I remember our games of Base Quest," Amaira says happily. Kai's smile wavers a bit, remembering that they used to play with her dad before he died. Kai knew that Amaira was just glad I was having people here for once. She was the only friend that Kai had over since the death of her dad.

"Okay me and Kai as team captains?" Zayne asked everyone. No one protests so Kai stands up next to Zayne.

"You can pick first Zayne," Kai says with a small smirk knowing he wants Gracelyn.

He rolls his eyes at Kai and Asher who are trying not to laugh, "Uhh I'll go with Gracelyn,"

"Okay, I want Asher,"

"Amaria,"

"Kasi,"

"Angin,"

"Sorry you're last again Bric," Kai says teasing.

He just sighs jokingly.

"No one is ever in need of an Empath," He says in mock defeat.

Everyone laughs and they start to head out to the backyard. Amaria holds Kai back before she can go out the door.

"Hey, you okay? Like with everyone being over and stuff?" She asks, her eyes looking concerned.

"It is a bit hard, you know without my dad but I'm ready to let people in my life again. I'm okay," Kai says. Surprisingly she really meant it. She was really happy she had her friends over today.

"Okay, that's good," Amaria looks ecstatic.

"Come on let's go," Kai says and pulls Amaria to the door.

They get to the backdoor and the others are already there waiting for them.

"All good?" Asher asks. Kai smiles at him.

"Yeah, let's get started with the game."

Kai and her team ran toward a secluded spot in the trees of her backyard. Kasi chose this spot because it was hidden by a bunch of bushes. They decided that having Angin on the other team was too overpowered, so they switched him and Bricen. 

"Okay, any plan ideas?" Kai asks. Their team was questing, so they were going to "attack" the other team's base.

"So I think me and Kai go over on the left side and Angin and Kasi go over on the right. We can meet up at their base to make a distraction while Kai gets to their base," Asher says.

Kasi looked like she didn't like this plan. Kai had a feeling it was because Asher had placed himself with Kai and not her. She didn't want there to be tension between them, but Kasi was making it really hard.

"Perfect, I can blow them with my ability when they get close," Angin says, oblivious to the tension.

"Um okay sounds like a plan," Kai says. She was excited that Asher picked her to be with him.

Before Kasi says anything, Kai hears Gracelyn in her head.

Are you guys ready to start?

'Yes' Kai thought back, and she was sure that everyone else also thought yes.

"Okay Asher, let's go," Kai says, grabs his hand, and starts to run. Angin and Kasi do the same and head over to the right.

Hand in hand they look around for signs of the other players coming to tag them. Kai was looking over to her right to see where the rest of their team was when she heard something moving. She turned invisible and pulled Asher down below a bush. He looked surprised.

She let Asher's hand go and stood up. She watched Zayne and Gracelyn trying to sneak around, hopefully, they wouldn't find Angin and Kasi. Since they were away from their base, Bricen and Amaria were probably guarding. Amaria was a flasher and it would be difficult to get past her. Bricen on the other hand, well they wouldn't need to worry about him much.

Once Zayne and Gracelyn passed Kai turned visible again. "Okay let's head over. You distract Amaria and I'll be invisible,"

Asher nodded his understanding and they began to sneak over together. Kai was super focused on where they stepped and made sure not to make any noise. They made their way over and as Kai had guessed, Amaria and Bricen were there.

At least she guessed it was Bricen because he was trying to hide behind a tree, but he wasn't doing a very good job.

"Ready?" She whispers to Asher. He nods and grabs the bush to make a noise. Amaria's head snaps over to where he was.

Kai headed over to get close to their base. Unfortunately, Bricen suspected this and stood directly in the way of their base, which was surrounded by thick bushes.

Behind her she saw Kasi and Angin had arrived, but so had Zayne and Gracelyn. Asher and Amaria were out of sight and Kai assumed that she had chased him.

"Kai I know you're there," He said, but Kai knew he didn't know exactly where she was because his eyes were still darting all over the place. Luckily, Bricen shifted slightly and made enough room for Kai to sneak by.

She runs quickly past, but Bricen must have heard her or felt her get past. He whips around and runs forward. Bricen was unfortunately fast and smashed into an invisible Kai. They both crash down on top of each other and it shocks Kai out of invisibility.
