Chapter 32

"Kai!" A high-pitched voice screamed from the doorway. 

Kai looked over to see Linh running towards her and giving her a huge hug. 

"Linh!" 

She had a few tears in her eyes and she grasped her hands tightly. 

"I am so glad that you're okay," Linh exclaimed. 

Kai saw Biana, Tam, and Dex there too. 

"Yeah, Elwin said my ankle isn't that bad," Kai said happily. 

Tam came over to her cot and looked skeptically at her ankle. It was wrapped tightly in a bandage. 

"How are you feeling?" Biana asked cautiously. 

Kai shrugged. "I'm doing better." 

Biana smiled and stepped back to let Dex come over. Kai still didn't know why her heart raced when she saw him. 

"Kai, I'm so glad you're okay," He said softly. Kai smiles happily. 

"Yeah... me too," 

Dex smiled and went back over to Sophie, who was also still in her cot. 

"Kai... um there is another person here, but I wasn't sure if you wanted to see her," Linh said carefully. Kai's mind immediately went to her mother, who she definitely didn't want to see. 

"It's Marella," 

Kai's mind screeched to a stop. Marella, like her ex-best friend Marella?

"Why is she here," Kai asked stupidly, obviously she was there to see her, but why? 

"She wants to see you," Linh whispered. 

Kai tried to not react, she didn't want the others to see how eager she was to see Marella. "I don't want to see her, but I think I need to," Kai said slowly. 

Linh nodded and went to the door. It felt like an eternity to Kai, but it really was just a few seconds. 

"Hi," Marella said slowly as she came into the room. 

She was in her foxfire uniform and had her signature braids in her hair. She looked more tired than usual almost like she hadn't been sleeping. 

"Marella," Kai said, her voice was more strained than she wanted. "How are you?" 

Marella scoffed, "How am I? How are you Kai, you almost died." 

She rushed forward and hugged Kai tightly. It caught Kai completely off guard. 

"I'm fine," Kai said when Marella let go. 

Marella glared at her, "You're not," 

Kai rolled her eyes, "I feel fine Marella." 

Marella ignored her and called for Elwin. 

"She has a headache, I can tell," 

Elwin snapped his fingers and made an icy blue light float above Kai's head. 

"Hmm, Kai why didn't you ask me for medicine?" Elwin said and handed her the pain relief. 

Kai just sighs, "Because I don't need it." Aside from her statement, she did have a throbbing headache. 

She huffed and took the medicine, which made Marella beam in pride. 

"Kai, look," Marella said. "I know we have our differences, but I still need you. I figured that out when I thought you died, and I want to say that I'm sorry. For everything." 

Kai felt like a huge weight was lifted off her mind when Marella said that, it was all she wanted to hear from her. 

"I'm so sorry Marella, I didn't mean to hurt you," Kai said, tears forming in her eyes. "I should never have said those things about you and your family." 

Marella laughed despite the serious situation. "I could say the same thing," 

Kai knew that they still had lots of stuff to work out, but for once in a long time, she felt like things were getting better. 

"Okay, now that there is a group of you. Will anyone help me bring Kai out into the main area?" Elwin asked the group. 

They all agreed, which resulted in the annoying and long process of getting her out the door. 

"Ugh," Kai said for the millionth time as she jolted from hitting a cot or wall. 

"Finally!" Biana said out of breath. 

They had finally gotten Kai into the outside area where visitors could see her. 

"Thanks, guys," Kai said. She was really excited to see her friends. "So when can they come to see me?" 

Elwin laughed, "Probably tomorrow afternoon,"

Kai pumped her fist into the air. "Yes!" 

She kept Amaria, Gracelyn, and Zayne in her mind as she fell asleep that night. Oh and of course Asher too.
