Chapter 11: Mystery of Pasta

"Hey guys! Long time no see." There was a voice exclaimed from the entry of the house.

Jason was about to sit at the dining table. When he saw her he ran and hugged her. He said, "How are you, Rohn?".

"What do you think, Jazz? No one can make me sad when I have my friends with me."

Hearing Jazz, Ella realized that there is only one Rohn, who calls Jason, Jazz. She swiftly made her way out of the kitchen and found that it was Rohini, her beloved childhood friend. She ran and tightly hugged her.

"When did Germany free you?" Ella asked Rohini.

"Well, I got my master's this year. And I've decided to work here as an intern and complete my further studies...", replied Rohini excitedly.

"Are you sure that you're gonna live with us?" Asked Jason.

"It's a big YESS!" Replied Rohini. "But, why didn't nobody inform me about your marriage? Jazz? Ella? How you can forget me?"

"It was all sudden. We'll tell you about it in brief later." Replied Ella. She was looking at Jason while replying.

Meanwhile, Grandma came and said, "Breakfast is ready. Let's eat together"

Everyone was assembled at the dining table except Ella and Indie. They both were helping serve the food as everyone was on leave and Indie was going to make the breakfast on her own.

Grandma asked, "Indie, Why you and Ella are serving? Where are the maids and chef?"

Indie replied, "They'll come this afternoon."

Grandma aggressively asked, "Why?"

Lorenzo (Jason's father) said, "Grandma. I and Indie together decided to do this. We wanted to make today's morning with our family and Roger told us that Rohn will give Ella and Jason a surprise today. Is there any problem?"

There was a silence for twenty-seven seconds.

Grandma said, "No problem."

And everyone continued with their breakfast. When Ella came to serve the pasta to Jason,

Rohini spoke to Roger and teased, "See childhood dream came true. Who knew that a game would be a reality." And smiled.

Roger asked, "What are you talking about, Rohn? What dream? What game?"

Hearing this, Rohini flicked Roger's forehead and said in a loud tone, "You stupid. He never remembers anything."

Roger replied, "At least, I don't break promises. Ask to Jason. Right, Jason?"

Jason and Ella realized what Roger was talking about. Before Jason could say anything, Grandma said, "If this is for family, let me remind you all. We eat food together without saying a word. This is what our culture says. Anyone who is not okay can leave."

Hearing this, there was a pin-drop silence and there was a sign of hatred in Rohn in Grandma.

Grandma said, "By the way, who made the pasta?"

Indie and Ella spoke together. Ella spoke, "Mom" and Indie spoke, "Ella"

They were both confused. Then Ella replied, "Mom meant to say that I helped her in chopping vegetables and was there till she made the dish. In all, Mom made the breakfast."

There wasn't only pasta but some breads, milk, cheese omelets and green salad.

Looking at the dining table again she asked, "Whole breakfast?"

Ella replied, "Yes!"

Everyone completed their breakfast but this time, silently...

Suddenly, Indie took Ella to a corner and asked, "Why did you lie?"

Ella replied, "It's okay Mom. Anyway, I only made the pasta."

Meanwhile, Rohini stood up from the dining chair, leaving her breakfast by pushing the chair backward with the help of her legs while standing up.

She said, "Ella. I've completed my breakfast. Why don't you show me your room? I want to know how it is. "

Ella said, "Yeah sure."

And Ella took Rohini with her to Jason and her room.

When they reached, Ella asked, "Tell me. What is it?"

Rohini replied, "What do I say? You should understand this. How can you marry someone whose family doesn't love each other? And who eats pasta in the breakfast?"

Ella only replied to the last question, "Your Jazz."

They both laughed for a while and stopped

Rohini smiled a little and said, "I understand that you two love each other but your family is a non-acceptable case for me."

Ella said like it was obvious, "Who told you that there's love between us? Didn't Roger tell you?"

Rohini in amazement, "What?"

Ella replied, "We have a contract. We don't love each other. We just act to be like a lovely couple. And in reality, we don't even sleep together. How do you think there will be love between us?"

Rohini asked, "What contract?"

Ella answered, "Contract for a year. We will be living together in a house for a year and after this, we'll divorce and we both will be on our path."

Rohini asked, "But why you did do this? Why do you spoil your life? Don't you know that your culture doesn't accept a divorced girl?"

Ella replied, "I know. I know everything you said. But there are some things which let you go against your family and culture. A promise can make you do this."

Rohini was frustrated and replied, "You and your code words. Even today, I can't understand these things. Tell me in simple words. Why did you do this?"

Ella replied, "Not here. Anyone would listen. How about somewhere else?"

Rohini said in a loud way, "Why? You already told me about the contract then why isn't the reason coming out of your mouth?"

Ella immediately said, "Shhhh. Don't be loud. Only me and Jason know about this contract."

Rohini said, "Wow! You know what? You and your family are full of suspense. You are changed."

Ella replied, "Let's meet up somewhere else. I'll tell you everything that happened between me and Jason in detail but don't tell anyone. Not even Roger knows about this."

While they talking, suddenly Jason came into the room. He came too close to Ella. It was a distance of about only the width of a finger.

Jason spoke out, "How dare you ruin my morning?"
