Character Facts #3

Iceshard:

1. As mentioned in Peace and Its Shadow he was part of the Jade Winglet as the replacement Icewing for Winter. When Winter eventually decided to not come back, Queen Snowfall ended up just sending the first Icewing she didn't want to deal with. This also takes place almost right after Book 15 when Moon, Qibli, and Turtle finally return to Jade Mountain. 

2. Shard wasn't interested in coming to Jade Mountain but due to him being quite lonely in the Ice Kingdom, he just decided to try it out.

3. Shard and Queen Snowfall have a tense relationship since Queen Snowfall tends to be annoyed by how Shard acts and speaks. Shard thinks she's irrational and she shouldn't have been the queen of how the line to the throne should work.

4. Despite the tenseness, Shard was taught to be and is incredibly loyal and works closely with the Icewing royal family. The reason why his head hadn't been taken off is because he's very dependable for tasks and always completes them quickly.

5. However, loyalty does not equal likeness. Ironically enough, deep down he despises the majority of the Icewing royals. Snowfall, I already explained, Narhwal and Tundra for their bad treatment of their dragonets(something he, unfortunately, relates to), partially Chrystal for just running off(partially because he knows he wouldn't love to do that with Caramel), Icicle for her unhinged and rude ways, and even Queen Glacier for just deciding to go against the royal family lineage to the throne like that. To him, it just seemed sudden, and the fact that now she decided to be peaceful and "select" the next queen angered him a little.

6. The three Icewing royals that weren't mentioned were Mink, Winter, and Hailstorm. He often is put closely with Mink, if anything he's more of Mink's bodyguard which she tended to order to play with her when Mink was younger. He respects Hailstorm in general and he has nothing against Winter. Sometimes he relates to Winter and the conflicts with the Icewing way.

7. As he mentions a lot in the book, he was part of the first circle which meant the very top though being beneath the Icewing royals. He memorized everything about the Icewing scrolls, he knows how to talk to sitting down properly, and he's very strong and is an expert in fighting. He is skilled in several weapons too.

8. At times he has some interest in Lynx, someone who shared the same spot as him in the rankings just slightly higher. He doesn't think about it too much.

9. He had gone through quite a bit of tragedy during the war of the Sandwing Succession. A lot of times he was forced to slaughter a ton of enemies and he even saw his squads getting killed in front of him. Some of the scars he has but covers up are because he had a similar experience as Winter and Hailstorm and got jumped by a bunch of enemy dragons. He had barely made it out.

11. A part of the reason he doesn't like Queen Snowfall is that when she broke the rankings and got rid of it, Shard, someone who worked up his way from the bottom, someone who trained and sacrificed his well-being of anything just for the loyalty and devotion to the tribe, Shard saw it as a slap to the face. All of his efforts were gone just like that.

12. As much Shard is loyal to the Icewings and the royal family, out of most Icewings, he'd be the one to burn it to the ground if he snaps. 

13. He has still yet to give Darkstalker that "Thank You" card.

14. Shard practically crippled Everest and Summit badly during the fight against him and Peacemaker.

15. He partook in the battle over Jade Mountain Academy which he faced upon enchanted Nightwings. He ended up being quite injured but killing quite a bit of them so some blood is on his talons.

So that's pretty much some facts about him. I like writing Shard since I think he's cool and one of my favorites. I hope in Chapter 31 when that finally gets done, I would like to have him have good moments there.
